Re: Cinnamon 1.6 - Doesn't load?
Ok, so another update. Cinnamon worked on the first login for the new user I created, but when I tried it again, I get the same result. I do have icons on the desktop, and the right-click works, just no panel.

Re: Cinnamon 1.6 - Doesn't load?
Ok, so I have determined that it is just something with my profile. If I login as a different user cinnamon starts up fine.
I would assume that there is a directory in my home folder that holds all info for cinnamon/gnome3. Anyone know what that dir might be?

Re: Cinnamon 1.6 - Doesn't load?
While Gnome classic does still work, there is no update available for muffin on my system, and Cinnamon still won't load correctly. All I get is the background.

Re: LMDE Mate issues after update
Ok, so all hard drive activity stopped. So I rebooted the system, it failed to start X on the reboot. I pressed ctrl-alt-f1 and logged in as root. I ran "dpkg --configure -a" and found that it continued on with the install of the updates. At some point tried to start the X session, I tried...

Re: LMDE Mate issues after update
Well.... the X server just crashed and won't start back up. Judging by the amount of hard drive activity I think it is still trying to install the updates. I guess I'll let it sit for awhile and see if the hard drive settles down. Then I'll reboot and see what happens.

Re: LMDE Mate issues after update
It took FOREVER to download the updates. It is just now actually installing them. I guess the servers were busy. I'll post an update as soon as everything is installed.

Re: LMDE Mate issues after update
Yeah I just got a lot more updates that were available, they are downloading and installing now. We'll see if it fixes the issue with Mate.

Re: LMDE Mate issues after update
Actually now that you mention it, Mate isn't showing as an available option when logging in. I didn't catch that before.
So hopefully it is just a bug in the update and they will release a fix soon. At least Cinnamon still works in the mean time.

Re: LMDE Mate issues after update
Also, just to put out more info of my issue...
If I tell it to use cinnamon when I login, it works fine, it only seems to have affected Mate.

LMDE Mate issues after update
I see a couple of threads with people having issues after this latest round of updates, but I didn't see anyone having the issue I am. I just updated my LMDE Mate system, everything reported to update/install successfully. After I updated I noticed that my system had been up and running for 130 days...

Re: Which version of Mint do people suggest using?
Thanks for all of the info, I'm thinking I'm going to load a test system with LMDE and give it a wirl.
We'll see how it works out.

Which version of Mint do people suggest using?
I am fairly new to LinuxMint. I had been using Fedora for many years. I recently discovered LinuxMint 13 and have swapped all of my systems to it as my main distro. I have been having several issues with it, most annoyingly the fact that it will randomly lock up on me, and it is doing this on 3 diff...

Re: nVidia Graphics Card - Increase/Update Max Resolution
In Mint 13, try clicking on the Menu, Preferences, Additional Drivers. It may inform you that you don't have the proprietary driver for NVidia installed. Trying enabling that and see if it helps. Also, I have used XRandR in the past to scale the screen to kind of give the illusion of higher resoluti...

Re: Internet Works, Intranet Doesn't
Is Linux pointing to different DNS servers for some reason? It may not be able to resolve the internal IP address correctly.
Can you ping the IP of the internal resource from Linux?

Re: PlayOnLinux
I would think that if PlayonLinux is getting its own updates, then even if there is a new version through the package manager, it will see the same version or a newer version already installed and wouldn't try to install and update that would actually give you an older version. And just out of curio...

Re: Mint in Virtual Machine on Windows 7 box
I have used VirtualBox for years now. I like the interface and have never had any issues with it. VMWare is a fine product as well, I just prefer VirtualBox. It's like arguing Ford vs Chevy. As for the edition of Mint to use, I use Cinnamon, it is basically Gnome 3 with a bunch of extensions to turn...

Yeah that's what I figured. Just curious.
On the Fedora Forums that I used to be on, you could actually earn badges and such for answering questions. Pretty meaningless, but for some reason I still got a little satisfaction from it...LOL
