It looks like the patch is in testing stages and the update will hit us at some point in the near future.
FWIW you can follow the trail of why the bug happened but I don't think it matters much to anyone except historical questioners.

Re: Font Viewer doesn't launch from GUI.
It was my impression that the bug is not one that belongs to Mint or Cinnamon but rather Ubuntu. Would it make more sense to contribute to the existing bug report like the one referenced in my first post: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-font-viewer/+bug/1607937 or another: https://bu...

Re: Font Viewer doesn't launch from GUI.
A recommendation was made in the Linux Mint Blog http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=3051, comment 284, to delete the line "DBusActivatable=true" in /usr/share/applications. That location is incorrect for Linux Mint 18 and should read ".local/share/applications/org.gnome.font-viewer.desktop". My fresh ins...

Re: Font Viewer doesn't launch from GUI.
I see the same problem starting Font Viewer from the menu entry in Sarah Cinnamon - ie it doesn't start. The work around suggested in post #3 here of commenting out the line DBusActivatable=true works but the suggested Font Manager alternative seems to be even better - the first run takes an eternit...

Re: Lock Launcher Icons to the Desktop
The problem is that the desktop launcher icons once put on the desktop do not always stay on the spots I put them. I've read somewhere that it might be a bug or a lack in the XFCE 4.10 desktop with LM 17.1 If so, is it possible to update the XFCE desktop? ger it looks like that bug may still be in ...

Re: Driver nvidia-340 causing keyboard delays?
I have 8600 GT card which is supported by the 340 but when I enable it and open a terminal it is just black. That was a show stopper for me so I never checked to see how the keyboard behaved. Have to stick with the 304 here.

NVIDIA updated and lost display
Hello. Hoping for some help to get my display back. I ran MintUpdate today which installed nVidia 304 and 340 updates. I have a 8600 GT card and was using the 304 updates driver as I remember. After a reboot I get a shell only and with a STARTX command get some error displays: NVIDIA:API mismatch: t...

they should have thier own SmartPhone / Tablet + it's connection: - so why do they need to use yours :?: Some have only wifi on the laptop and have to connect via router. Others with phone have a data plan that they must pay for and use wifi when available because it is free and often much faster. ...

Re: Windows 10 to be free upgrade
Now can turn off updates in Win 10 home. http://winsupersite.com/windows-10/windows-10-home-users-can-now-toggle-automatic-app-updates-windows-store Doesn't that imply that apps from the store will not get auto updates? The OS updates are the ones of big concern. I made a clean install of W10 on a ...

Re: Board attachment quota?
I was a bit surprised that attachments were allowed at all because of the disk space used. Some other forums make you use a link code like BBC with the image stored on a host server but without size limitations. This forum has a size limitation considerably smaller than that used for the attachment....

Re: Required password for Update Manager
Do you change the sources that often to complain about it? :) This isn't the complaint department and I'm not complaining (well maybe some) Just trying to make the suggestion that between the Mint 13 way and the Mint 17 way, the more sensible way would appear to be the old way and the prefer...

Re: Required password for Update Manager
I get that many would like a system where you don't need to type passwords period (I'm not one of them). And now you can refresh the list of updates, view them, select/deselect them, change any preferences and do other stuff without having to type your password. Only if you decide to actually instal...

Thanks for the heads-up gold_finger-I will check it out. Not to sure which wall I grabbed (adjusted perspective a bit in GIMP) but I followed the tip given here by RytronII.

Re: how to stop desktop icons from auto-arranging
That is very cool desktop! dang you can even have a different wallpaper for each desktop if you like - try doing that with xfdestop. That's easy to do now in latest Xfce. Tks. I was unaware that this could be done with the latest Xfce. Can you elaborate? I'm sure some would be interested.

Re: Required password for Update Manager
I don't see anything to worry about. Holding packages means writing them to the blacklist for the current user ( ~/.config/linuxmint/mintupdate.ignored ). This blacklist is read and written only by mintUpdate. In other words, it's not system-wide and it's totally ignored by apt-get/aptitude/Synapti...

crassius > I would be very surprised if you can find a way to take control away from that menacing grid. I tried in vain following every suggestion Google had to offer. What will work however is installing pcmanfm (I used Synaptic) and have it take control of the desktop thereby letting you have co...

Required password for Update Manager
Testing Qiana and find after starting Update Manager that a password is required to change software sources and run updates but it is not required when holding and unholding packages. It seems inconsistent security to allow an unprivileged user to do this. Would be better to have the same required a...
