Re: <SOLVED> Avidemux Codec Problem

Thanks for this. I was having the same problem after upgrading to Mint 16 Cinnamon, but I can confirm the the solution (above) resolved all the codecs issues.

Thanks to the OP... ;-)

Re: Multi boot USB grub config question . . . . . .

I have had exactly the same experience with trying to boot Ubuntu 14.04. The setup I have been using now for years is to use Grub2 to run a couple of installations of Mint as well as a number of ISO files to run/test other distros. I have been booting Ubuntu this way up until 14.04 and now the confi...

Re: [SOLVED -partially] Re: Mint 13 GUI crashes Fatal X erro

bump... Finally, could I ask for some advice: (1) is it therefore adviseable not to update Mint 13 with upstream packages (levels 3+)? (2) how can I lock the individual downgraded packages so that they don't mess up my install again? (3) how can I find out what the problem was that the package upgra...

[SOLVED -partially] Re: Mint 13 GUI crashes Fatal X error

I'm marking this as partially solved as I only fixed the problem by downgrading the problem packages... therefore, in my view, this counts only as a "partial" solution because I haven't resolved the real bug. As I mentioned above, I had an idea that the package upgrades that caused the problem were ...

Re: Mint 13 Desktop crashes - mdm: Fatal X error

Well, no replies! (wrong sub forum...?) Anyway, I can confirm that this problem was introduced by a recent package upgrade in Mint 13. I've just done: - a clean install of Mint 13 - only updated level 1 and leve 2 packages (i.e. no level 3) - added the proprietary ATI drivers Everything is running s...

[SOLVED -partially] Re: Mint 13 GUI crashes Fatal X error

NOTE: see my post below regarding the "partial" solution. I've been running Mint 13 cinnamon/MATE for about a month with no trouble whatsoever. Yesterday, I was busing using graphics applications--GIMP and Inkscape--without issue. Then, last night I ran an apt-get "update" and "upgrade" and I notic...

Re: computer running hot?

I noticed a similar heat issue on my laptop. My suggestion would be to do the following: - run with the default kernel for Mint 13 - install the proprietary ATI drivers - install cpufrequtils - play with the ATI card settings and the CPU frequency In my case, I found that by installing the proprieta...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

While its still early days for cinnamon it looks, to me, like the way of the future. I'm using it on a daily basis on my main production system. Sure, there are still lots of tiny issues (its a little bit hungrier than it should be, for example... ), but I can only see this DE becoming truly ...

Re: Screenshot app malfunctioning, Linux Mint 13 with Cinnam

Any news on this? I'm having the screenshot problem, too. Definitely seems to be a problem only under cinnamon... Here's my hardware: - System: Kernel: 3.2.0-23-generic x86_64 (64 bit) / Desktop: Cinnamon / Distro: Linux Mint 13 Maya - CPU: Dual core Intel Core2 Duo CPU P8700 (-MCP-) clocked at 800....

Re: Mint 13: Problem activating ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX dr

Here's what I did: Using the command line (or synaptic): ~$ sudo apt-get remove fglrx fglrx-amdcccle Then: ~$ sudo apt-get install fglrx-updates fglrx-amdcccle-updates Then restart... The "post release updates" should now be installed even though they won't show up under the "Additional Drivers" men...
