Archive Manager won't open ODT

An ODT file is just a ZIP archive. Occasionally (usually to extract a whole lot of embedded images from a file) I need to open the archive. In LM18, I used to right-click on the file and choose Open With → Archive Manager. Now, when I do this it says Could not open "filename". Archive type not suppo...

Remember, to reinstall Win 10, you need to have created a Windows Recovery USB flash-drive that has a System Image on it(= about 12GB in size), ie not just the Windows Recovery Environment or System Repair Disk/Drive(= about 200-400MB in size).
Done, but thanks for the reminder.

[SOLVED] Recommendations for Single-Boot Installation

Just got a new ThinkPad T480 and will be installing LM 19. I haven't installed LM in a couple of years, and all my previous laptops were MBR. The new laptop is UEFI. I will blow away Windows and do not need to dual boot. I would like to keep the recovery partition. The current partitions are: Device...

Re: How long should `mintupgrade check` run?

Terminated process. The sources still seem to by pointing to 17.3 Rosa, and my PPAs are all still there, so I guess it didn't do anything. Will do fresh install when I'm ready to move to 18.

Thanks for the assistance.

Re: How long should `mintupgrade check` run?

Thank you both for you estimates of how long `mintupdate check` should take. I left it running overnight, and it appears to have not terminated successfully. Terminal still doesn't show command prompt, and there has been no new output since my original post. Obviously I am going to have to do fresh ...

How long should `mintupgrade check` run?

For anyone who has done the 17.3 → 18 upgrade using `mintupgrade`: I am following instructions at https://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/2316. I kicked off `mintupgrade check` about 6 hours ago. It hit all repositories and then output: + Checking if Linux Mint is up to date... + Backing up yo...

Re: Unreliable left mouse button software (especially after suspend)

I seem to be having a similar issue. If this is *not* what you are describing, please let me know and I will post to a new topic. As OP describes, the issue is *not* that the mouse is completely unresponsive. It appears that left mouse button is not working, but playing around a bit, it appears more...

Re: Firefox: All search engines have disappeared after purge/reinstall

Add more search engines link literally does nothing. Here it takes me to: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?atype=4 If all else fails, maybe you can add from there. That worked! For some reason it appears that if you have *no* search engines, that link is broken, but I was able to ad...

Firefox: All search engines have disappeared after purge/reinstall [SOLVED]

Firefox got taken over by a browser hijacker. In order to get rid of it I purged Firefox, then manually deleted: /usr/lib/firefox /usr/lib/firefox-addons ~/.mozilla I then reinstalled Firefox with apt-get. Browser hijacker taken care of. However, I no longer have search functionality: Address bar do...

Re: How can I tell if my home is encrypted?

Sorry for the delay. I booted from LiveCD (LiveUSB, actually), and the files are viewable, so it's definitely not encrypted. Not sure why not. Maybe a stray mouseclick during installation after selecting to encrypt? Thanks.

[SOLVED] How can I tell if my home is encrypted?

Just installed Rebecca on a machine that had been running Maya. Laptop has two partitions which used to be a system partition and a data partition. /home used to be on the system partition, but data partition had personal documents in /data/user/Documents, /data/user/Pictures, etc., with links from ...

Re: Firefox opens multiple windows at launch

Not sure what happened here, but I restored (by renaming profile folder) the factory fresh profile (as expected, problem went away), then restored my old, desired profile, and the problem no longer seems to manifest. Seems to be solved, beats me as to why.

[SOLVED?] Firefox opens multiple windows at launch

I just did a clean upgrade to Qiana (Cinnamon) from Maya. I have Firefox heavily customized (sync, various plugins, bookmarks, file associations, etc.), so I saved my profile, i.e. copied ~/.mozilla folder to new the install. Firefox itself seems to be working fine, except for the fact that every ti...

Re: Amazon Instant Video on Mint 17

Videos with DRM require hal (Hardware Abstraction Layer) which is no longer in Linum Mint repos. You will notice that if you play a trailer on Amazon (free promo, no DRM), it shows fine, but the full movie (paid or Prime) doesn't play. Fortunately, someone is maintaining a PPA with just this package...

Re: Black Screen after Suspsend on HP Pavilion g4

Found this bug report: Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep . This appears to be the same problem I am having, and `nomodeset` works to allow suspend and resume. However when the desktop starts I get the notification: Running in software rendering mode Cinnamon is currently running with...

Black Screen after Suspsend on HP Pavilion g4

I've found several posts related to this, but none have been helpful yet. I have an HP Pavilion g4 laptop with AMD A6-4400M processor and AMD/ATI Trinity Radeon HD 7520G graphics card. I have been running Maya on this laptop for over a year, and suspend has worked normally. I just installed Quiana, ...

Re: Mint 13 - 2 system settings options after update

I have the same issue and I think the problem is that cinnamon-control-center is not available for Maya. Note that the two different System Settings (which I also have) does not look like the System Settings in Cinnamon 1.8: http://www.linuxmint.com/tmp/cinnamon-blog/261/thumb_control-center.png. Th...
