Re: Can't Install LMDE on MacBook Air

A last update on the issue. I downloaded a Debian iso and copied the EFI folder found in the LMDE2 live USB to the Debian live USB. Debian finely booted and immediately found the MacBook Air SSD. That experiment tends to show that there is something wrong with the making of lmde-2-201701-mate-64bit....

Re: Can't Install LMDE on MacBook Air

More information to better focus on the issue. I booted the live USB on a Mac Mini and LMDE saw the HD. Gparted displayed all its partitions. The Mac Mini runs under Mountain Lion. The logical conclusion is that: Either Apple added "something" in El Capitan 10.11.5 that prevents the LMDE live USB fr...

Can't Install LMDE on MacBook Air

Hi, I'm trying to install LMDE 2 (MATE, 64-bit, dual boot) on a brand new MacBook Air, the very last 11" model, running under El Capitan. After booting LMDE on the live USB, Betsy can't see the SSD. She only sees herself. Gparted only sees the USB stick too. No sign of the MBA SSD at all, as though ...

Re: Customization?

Thanks xenopeek. Right, I didn't post in the LMDE forum intentionally because I know customization can't be with LMDE. I'm also ready to move to the main edition because I did note the update packs have halted. Removing unused applications is delicate because of the intricacy of the package system. ...

Customization?

I'm tempted to update my Linux Mint version. But as it took me days time to get it tuned to my wishes, I wonder if there is a customizable version at the install now. I mean I don't need many applications that are installed by default. Getting rid of them without deleting some shared elements they u...

Re: No Internet with the Last Intel Processors?

AlbertP, what I wrote above is wrong. The Broadcom tg3 driver doesn't work most of time (9/10) when installed with "make" and "sudo make install" from the archive, independently of the chosen language (it was just a coincidence the times it worked I'd made English installations). Indeed the right wa...

Re: No Internet with the Last Intel Processors?

AlbertP and zerozero, a piece of information you might find useful. The Broadcom tg3 driver installs and works only if LM is installed in English/American language! It's never worked with the 5 or 6 French installations I've made and it's worked with the couple of English installations I've made. Th...

Re: No Internet with the Last Intel Processors?

AlbertP, I've been up and running for a few days. I tried to install LM13 twice but I couldn't even boot it. Twice I got the message "Missing OS after install". I then installed LMDE again and it worked at first time again. Next I installed the Broadcom driver again and that time it worked as well. ...

Re: No Internet with the Last Intel Processors?

AlbertP, I'm sorry I can't install LM 13 right now. My Mac has got a little video problem and is going to be replaced by Apple. And now I'm busy with transferring all my data. Next I'll have to redo all the work I did (partitioning, formating, installing...) before running LM again. Fortunately, I n...

Re: No Internet with the Last Intel Processors?

OK, I'll uninstall tg3.
FYI, I installed LMDE. All the tests I've made so far have been under LMDE, not LM 13 that showed a lack of internet connection too when I booted the image.

Re: No Internet with the Last Intel Processors?

Did it. Both commands return nothing. And I experienced my first freeze right after that. Just had to use the hard switch to stop the computer.

Re: No Internet with the Last Intel Processors?

I did the install but it didn't help. Internet is still off after reboot. You may want to know the messages I'm getting at boot time. There are some problems. I took a pict of the screen for you (didn't know how to capture that in another way). There are many more lines that come after those after s...

Re: Differences between LM 13 and LMDE

Thanks Killer. I've been using LMDE for about a year now (on a couple of other computers) and it was my first try with LM 13 (on my new Mac) just to check if the internet connection was supported in LM 13 since it wasn't in LMDE (see my other threads). And as I said I was dumbstruck by LM 13 booting...

Re: Differences between LM 13 and LMDE

Thanks for all the information, cwsnyder. Could you give me a few examples of pre-made choices, please? I didn't use a chronometer but to me booting LM 13 was lightning fast (though surely more than 5 sec which was just my impression), about 3 times faster than LMDE anyway. I was dumbstruck. It may ...

Differences between LM 13 and LMDE

I'd be happy to know the reasons for the following significant differences between LM 13 and LMDE. - LM 13 image is 833 Mb whereas LMDE image is 1,12 Gb. Is there the same size ratio between the installed versions? - LM 13 boots in 5 seconds whereas LMDE boot takes 15-20 seconds - LM 13 silently boo...

No Internet with the Last Intel Processors?

Following my "LMDE on Apple Mac?" thread, I'm starting a new thread because the internet capability is not recognized with the new Intel architecture, I think. My Mac is the Apple Mac mini "Core i7" 2.3 (Late 2012) whose specs are here: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_mini/specs/mac-mini-c...

Re: LMDE on Apple Mac?

OK I eventually booted LMDE. I couldn't before because rEFIt was still on. I deleted it completely (there are two folders to clean). As long as LM is installed on the internal drive, rEFIt is no longer needed. Booting the Mac with the Alt key down shows a "Windows" volume to boot which is LM. At sta...

I was following step by step the tutorial I mentioned above and this one http://maketecheasier.com/install-dual-boot-ubuntu-in-macbook-air/2012/08/27 that reads "On the rEFit screen, press the right arrow to select the USB installer, and press and hold the “Ctrl” button while the USB i...

Re: LMDE on Apple Mac?

I took rEFIt off and simply booted the Mac holding the Alt key down with the USB installer in. Mac OS Mountain Lion detects the USB as a bootable device and names it Windows (along with the Mac OS volumes). Then when I boot the USB installer, I get exactly the same result as when rEFIt was on, that ...
