Re: Mint on MSI Wind

Hi, i got myself a Medion Akoya E1210, wich is a relabeled MSI Wind, with some minor differences (other wlan card). I've tried the Mint 5.0r1 live cd, wich wouldn't boot, just like the Ubuntu 8.04 live cd. Both gave me the busybox prompt and where unable to access the cd or usb stick i tried to use ...

The program to scan coming with the default clamav package is clamscan. You can execute it by typing "clamscan" in a terminal. If you want to knwo how it works, type "man clamscan"

Re: SD Kingston Memory Card

Googleing "Device offlined - not ready after error recovery" leads to lots of info on similar problems, most with external USB mass storage devices. Unfortunately i haven't come up with a real solution. The only thing worth trying is reducing the speed form USB 2 to USB 1 speeds. However, ...

Re: temperature monitoring software?

Here is a nice guide on installing lm-sensors on Ubuntu. tested it and it works on Elyssa, however, you can skip step 2

The package sensors-applet will give you a nice gnome-applet to monitor the sensors in the panel

Re: Buying (NAS) Backup/File Sharing System - Recommendations?

So what? What I think you fail to realize is that this little box runs linux and you can mount it with samba or NFS just fine as "just another NAS". There is no requirement to actually use WD's client software just because the drive says WD on the outside of the box. The deal-breaker is t...

Re: Buying (NAS) Backup/File Sharing System - Recommendations?

Here's an idea for you: buy an off-the-shelf solution that is in your budget range. This comes to mind. How about 1TB of data in a little linux box that comes stock with backup software for XP and Vista? Seems like a perfect solution for what you're looking for. http://www.westerndigital.com/en/pro...

Re: Buying (NAS) Backup/File Sharing System - Recommendations?

I have used PartImage on the Sysresccd for all my past backups, but I realized that it was stupid to have most of your network utilize NTFS and use software that had only 'experimental' NTFS support. That and the fact that if ones MBR or FS gets screwed, then a partition based backup util would be ...

Re: Buying (NAS) Backup/File Sharing System - Recommendations?

Yea sorry I was busy setting my *ARGHH!* torrents, that's all. It's nice that FreeNAS supports it, but I really don't think I need it unless I am going to set it up so they back up off each other... but first I have to actually GET the hardware... But that still leaves my backup software: ev...

Re: Linux Mint 64-bit / "sidegrade"

I suggest you back up your data and install Mint rather than trying to "SideGrade" to Mint from Ubuntu ... it's a recipe for disaster :) i'd love to, but i dont want to throw a gig of ram out the window by going from 64 bit ubuntu to 32-bit-only mint! which is where the sidegrade ...

Re: Read-only .odt file

You can find a quick workaround here: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/FAQ/General/How_can_I_get_an_editable_document_from_a_read_only_document%3F But seeing the filesystem permissions are correct the read-only flag is set in OpenOffice. Take a look at the documentation and/or ...
