ive just struck this as well
Mint mate 19.1
Downloads folder ,at full screen unable to change name of folder (sub folders no problem)
If i drag the screen smaller then i can rename the folder

had a stab at this
chmod -R 777 /home/user/Downloads/

then killall caja

seems ok now

Using mint 19 mate. I used to have GIS as a weather app on my desktop. This no longer seems to work. Ive prob done something wrong... I've just been through the same issues on mate with mfc8840d networked after much fuss and bother this is what i did. Thank you yes the smb password was the issue.
I did have other questions in relation to the guest access but of no importance.

So ive fooled around with this once again. (on a virtual box) The only way i can get a file to open directly is via a launcher on the desktop. using the creds file with username and password.per altair4, mentioned above. Tried your suggestion but could not get it to work.
i reinstalled 18.3 to have a clean slate.

Ive no doubt got something wrong but am at a loss as to what that may be. i will have another try when i get a bit of time

Are you sure you have tried 18.1 in your virtual box?

In fact Vbox is 18.3
