Re: Who is using Debian STABLE?

There's a lot of factors that affect RAM usage.... Thank you. I believe your post has answered my question well. I have already gone to Menu -> Settings -> Services and disabled or uninstalled the items yuou've mentioned, and much more. Your first paragrasph applies in my case in one way or another...

Re: Who is using Debian STABLE?

Without Docky and all the fancy apps, Xfce Squeeze uses less than 80MB idle. That's very interesting to me. I use Openbox as my default session and when it boots up and I activate htop it's around 97-98 MB. Yet your XFCE is 80MB! I'd like to know what services you've disable or removed, if applicab...

Re: I wanna learn everything Linux, dont know where to start

Searching and reading is always good advice. Install linux somewhere. You'll want something to get your hands dirty with. (More on that later.) My curiosity and specific desires drove me into what I researched and learned. I use some programs that use "a lot" of resources. Therfore, while my compute...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - (Tracking SID!) - Jul 19th

I have OpenArena and updating my system (while pointing to sid correctly ) caused the skybox to turn black - it rendered incorrectly although the game was still playable. This is the solution that I found that worked: 1. Use any editor to open ~/.openarena/baseoa/q3config.cfg 2. Look for seta r_fast...

Re: firewall?

In Windows I used to run Spybot with tea timer so nothing in the registry was changed without my permission, and avira antivirus with active guard and firewall. Don't miss it one bit. Remember WinPatrol? SuperAntispyware? I had at least two or three antimalware programs on top of my antivirus. My s...

Hooray! I tested the most important things, OpenArena, Suaerbraten, Mame, and Gltron. Then I looked at my XFCE Session. Update manager says next update N/A WARNING: You are pointing directly to Debian. This is recommended only for experienced users. YESSSSSS!!!! I'm so happy I'll post a screenshot. ...

I'm sorry I don't know

some folks have better luck with wicd instead of (gnome) network manager, and vice versa.

Re: cant use wifi cuzOf invalid password, butMyPassword is va

I'm sorry, but as you can see there is no solution to the problem. Are you using wep? I tried getting Debian to connect to my wireless. I installed all of the necessary firmware. It could scan and detect my networks. I could see them clearly. No matter how I adjusted the settings, the response was "...

Re: The End of Mint Fluxbox?

Linux Mint DE XFCE with Openbox installed, properly tweaked. uses less ram than Crunchbang. Since Fluxbox is similar, I imagine it would use less ram also.

Lubuntu's Openbox session used less than both, but you need to enjoy system errors.

Re: If Linux Mint disappeared tomorrow, what would you use?

I would go with a pure Debian LXDE (even today) if I could get the Universal Operating System to play nice with the deprecated wireless WEP connection I am forced to use. Even with the non free firmware, Debian can see the networks, but only responds with "Failed to obtain IP Address" or "Incorrect ...
