Re: USB flash/thumb drives can ONLY be ejected, but not unmounted in GUI ?

I use gnome-disks (Menu->Accessories-Disks) to unmount without ejecting.

Re: Password Managers, What do You Use?

About six months ago, I decided to give Bitwarden (https://bitwarden.com/) a try, and haven't looked back. It handles web sites, credit cards, and other assorted odds and ends. I highly recommend it.

Re: Suggestion: For Mint 20 to go full Debian

Debian already offers live dvd's with a good choice of desktop environments. I have tried Debian "Stretch" with Cinnamon. It seems to be rock solid. I may soon install it on one of my two home machines to confirm my first impression.

Re: Please recommend calendar app without sync

FWIW, I would first try to disable iCloud for calendars. See https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207689. I don't have an iPhone, so I can't test Apple's instructions myself.

Re: Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 Adapter not recognized

I recently bought a new laptop, and had a similar problem. I booted the live DVD while connected to the Internet with a wired ethernet connection, installed Linux Mint 18.1, and rebooted into the new system. I then updated the kernel, using Update Manager, from version 4.4.0-? to the latest availabl...

Re: So pretty much all changed over to Linux Mint, but, needs...

For two years, I have used the IRS's free online forms and Viginia's comparable free online state forms. Both were developed by Intuit, the maker of Turbo Tax.

Re: Can't open command prompt without X server running

I don't think it's an Nvidia driver problem. I see basically the same symptoms on my laptop, which uses the built-in Intel display adapter. Ctrl+Alt+F9 gets me back to my X display.

Re: Conflict between Firefox and Adobe Flash

I rarely need flash for anything. A growing number of sites offer speed tests using HTML5. Do a web search for "free HTML5 speed test". Try a few sites, and settle on those you like best. Hope this helps.

Two alternatives, both available in repositories:
a. gedit with Join/Split Lines plugin from package gedit-plugins
b. geany

Hope this helps.

Re: How do I update the BIOS in Linux Mint 17.2

According to the Asus web site, that motherboard has EZ Flash2, which lets you update the bios from a USB flash drive with a built-in utility. Check out your motherboard's documentation.

Re: Flash plugin 11.2.202.468 vulnerable s/be updated

I run LMDE2, and had the same issue in Firefox 38.0.1. I worked around it by removing package mint-flashplugin, and installing package flashplugin-nonfree, instead.

Re: file splitter/joiner for mint 17

There is no need to search for apps. Linux Mint, like most distributions, already contains two command-line applications that will split and rejoin files. The first is "split", which does the splitting, and the second is "cat", a general-purpose concatenation tool, which will rejoin the pieces. Chec...

I agree with rbeltz48. I've been using TaxACT online for several years. You can download and use IRS and state fillable forms, also.

Re: Minimize Thunderbird to tray in Cinnamon 2.0

I always set it up to start automatically at login. That way, Thunderbird and its calendar plugin, Lightning, are always running when I'm logged in. The command I use for autostarting is "kdocker -q -d 30 thunderbird". See the man page to understand the options.

Give kdocker a try. It works for me, with Cinnamon and Xfce.
