Re: Nemo Slow to Load Folders [Linux Mint 14 Cinnamon]

I think I fixed Nemo's slow startup on my system, at least. Now I'm not running Nemo on Mint but on Ubuntu Unity. I installed Nemo without the Cinnamon desktop from the Ubuntu repos through Ubuntu Software Center, and followed instructions posted here and on http://www.fandigital.com for integrating...

Re: "could not write bytes: Broken pipe" is message at shutd

I have the same error message, also on a fresh install Mint 13 MATE/Maya. Actually, MATE is starting in TTY8, not the standard TTY7, which appears to be not available. This can be verified after a cold start-- press Ctl-Alt-F1, and you should find yourself at the login prompt for TTY1. Press Ctl-Alt...

Re: LM13 Cinnamon log out: Cannot write bytes: broken pipe

This doesn't appear to be limited to Cinnamon. I see the same message on shutdown in Mint 13 Mate (Maya)-- ^@could not write bytes: Broken pipe Hey! I also just now found out that the Mate desktop (fresh install) is starting in TTY8 instead of 7 which is standard! This, after restarting. TTY7 is not...

SOLVED: Change Mint Maya default web browser

Yes, I've changed the selection from Firefox to Chromium in Default Applications, Browser, and still some remote document links open in Firefox. Interestingly enough, in Chromium, Settings > Basic > Default Browser: it states, "Chromium cannot determine or set the default browser." This is Chromium ...

Re: Text Editor "Pluma" Question <SOLVED>

squeezy, why create Mint counterparts? Why not just use the original Gnome applications? Even if Mint is a fork of Gnome 2, why not keep the original Gnome applications? I believe you are confusing Mint and MATE. Pluma is an application in the MATE desktop environment. MATE is the GNOME 2 fork. Min...

Change Mint Maya default web browser

I have changed mime associations which now cause clicks on HTML documents to open in my preferred Chromium-browser. But some URL links continue to open in Firefox. I discovered that these links may call "sensible-browser" in the Mint 'environ' variable, which is a global setting. I then read the man...

Re: Text Editor "Pluma" Question <SOLVED>

BUT -- why are these applications renamed in the first place, if the original applications work just as well in Mint (Maya)? I am unable to find any comment on the purpose of the rebranding. Can someone provide a rationale? Applications were renamed so they wouldn't conflict with their GNOME counte...

Re: Text Editor "Pluma" Question <SOLVED>

Although Pluma is identical to Gedit, it doesn't offer the same full plugins package, nor instructions for adding plugins. In particular, I find very useful the Join/Split Lines macro in the Gedit plugins package, but it doesn't appear in the included plugins with Pluma. I ended up installing Gedit ...
