Gimp hijack
When I attempt to open a non-home folder (eg /usr/local) as administrator, Gimp loads instead. I uninstalled Gimp (with Symantic) and tried to open /usr/local and everything worked as it should. I reinstalled Gimp and this strange behavior resumed. This is a recent development. Any suggestions?

Re: Update Manager Issue.
In my case, Update Manager shows cinnamon-nemo as a possible update (the only one in the list). I'm using Mint 18.3-Mate, not Cinnamon. Even more, I'd added cinnamon-nemo to my list of blacklisted applications. I still get the blue shield icon in my panel. Is there any benefit to installing cinnomon...

Re: Gimp - docking tool options box in toolbox
Caz - This worked! Thanks. I'm saving your instructions in case I ever need them again.
Cosmo - I tried many times to just drop the Tool Options "where it says 'drop here' " but that didn't work for me.

[Solved] Gimp - docking tool options box in toolbox
I've somehow disengaged the Tool Options box from its home in the Toolbox. Can somebody help me get it docked back where it belongs? I've read through the sections in the Gimp users manual and found nothing that helped.

run fsck at shutdown instead of during boot
Would it be possible to add an option defer the periodic running of fsck until shutdown, instead of cancelling it? At boot, when fsck runs, there'd be a message to press D to defer, C to cancel. Or alternatively, there could be a setup option to change this.

Is there a list of program versions for LMDE? - Solved
Is there any way to see what versions of programs LMDE will install? For example, what version of Gimp will be installed? Or LibreOffice?
One way would be to install LMDE and see what I get. I was hoping for a list on a web site somewhere but I haven't been able to find it.

Re: no wifi (SOLVED)
After two weeks of searching online, reading posts, trying everything that looked promising (including upgrading from Maya to Nadia), I surrendered, and bought an Asus USB N13 wireless adapter. When the Netgear WNA3100 was replaced by the Asus, I booted and magically wireless networks were detected.

Re: Poll: Desktop environments
I use Mate 1.4, on Maya.
I've been using Mint since version 5, with the Gnome 2 desktop. I've tried Maya with KDE and Cinnamon but my unfamiliarity with these desktop environments pushes me back to Mate. I just downloaded the Mint user guide but found it's specific to Mate.

Thanks äxl.
I poked around in my /.local/share/applications/ folder but couldn't find anything obvious that I could edit, to set browser and mail reader in Preferred Applications to what I'm using.

Re: Cinnamon/MATE configuration problems
Using Maya with Mate, the browser and mail reader options in Preferred Applications are greyed out. Surely there's a config file that can be edited. Where, what?

Preferred applications is greyed out for me too (in Maya with Mate). Is there a config file somewhere I can edit to change the preferred apps?

Re: Can't Print with LMDE --Help
But with the 64-bit version of LMDE, when foo2zjs is installed, Synaptic helpfully uninstalls cups, cups-driver-gutenprint, cups-pdf, hplip and hplip-cups. Then nothing works!

Re: Installing Thunderbird 7 from a tarball?
@ c0redump Thanks for revealing Mozilla's hiding places for the 64 bit tarballs for Firefox and Thunderbird. I like to have the most recent releases of these two programs loaded, but after I installed the 64 bit version of LMDE I just hit a brick wall. As previous people have posted in this thread, ...

Re: Login Screen Settings not unlocking.
I'm using the (201109-gnome-32bit) version of LMDE. Following various suggestions, I've added the suggested lines to both /etc/gdm3/daemon.conf and to /etc/gdm3/custom.conf. Neither works. With LMDE before loading the new spin, adding these lines to daemon.conf did work for me. Opening (gksudo gdmse...

Re: SD card reader doesn't work (again)
What about those of us using Isadora (LM9-LTS)? We have gvfs 1.6.1-0ubuntu1build1 and udisks 1.0.1-1ubuntu1
Would I break anything if I enabled the Ubuntu Natty repository, installed the new versions of gvfs and udisks, and then disabled the Natty repo?

Re: Can't Print with LMDE --Help
Problem solved, in my case it least. The printer driver that works with my wife's Laserjet p1505 from my computer running LM9 is foo2xqx. I couldn't find this in Synaptic's listing. I Googled it, and found a hint that foo2xqx is included in a download of foo2zjs. I installed this, changed the printe...

Re: Can't Print with LMDE --Help
Hey Malligt Did you ever manage to print? I have exactly the same problem getting LMDE to print to a Laserjet p1505 connected to a WinXP box. I'm dual booting LinuxMint 9 and it works perfectly when that's running. It worked on earlier versions of LinuxMint, too, but not on LM-11 or LMDE. I did chec...
