Is there a way to boot HD installed Mint into RAM?

The title says it all: is there a way to boot an installed Mint system entirely into ram? I know we can do this from Live-CD, but I want to be able to do this in a normal install.

Thx in advance.

Re: No Pulseaudio, Mint 8 KDE

PulseAudio and KDE have never been compatible. Use ALSA. Not true. I use KDE for about 5 years now, never had a problem with PulseAudio (and I run a 7.2 sound system). In Synaptics, search for "pulseaudio" and install it. Install "padevchooser", "paprefs", "pamam" too. Go to the Multimedia section ...

(SOLVED) can´t mount /proc: no such device found

Hi there, This problem has ever affected me, but after several restarts I´m now upset: everytime I turn on my PC, I have to disconnect my SATA HD to avoid a 80% chance the boot process of my Linux Mint will hang up with that message. I heard somewhere that the BIOS mess up things when more than one ...

Looking Glass

Hi there, Quite some time ago (hmm, like 2 years...) I saw a project from Sun: Looking Glass. For some time Sun developed it, since then I think it stopped. I recall it was developed in Java. I saw some demos and installed it on a Windows machine. Although it was extremely faulty, with many bugs and...

Re: Two improvements for Mint - It must be done!

You are certainly welcome to your opinions and so far you havent really said anything that particularly bothers me, but how is it that you deem yourself being the community spokesman against ak dave when most of us agree with him? Why dont you just learn how to use Linux? Eventually it will get eas...

Re: Two improvements for Mint - It must be done!

"It must be done" reads as a demand, not a request, and it doesn't matter what video game you swiped the quote from Too bad, man. It's really bad you didn't know this one. But, oh!, i didn't write it for you. I, specifically, wrote it for people able and willing to help improve Linux in general. We...

Re: Two improvements for Mint - It must be done!

I have to explain the title - It's just a quote from Illidan, the Demon Hunter of Warcraft 3. Not a demand, not even a request. Just two ideas that formed from the two things that realy upset me with Mint. I know workarounds for them or I would not be using Mint now, but these ideas, if implemented,...

Two improvements for Mint - It must be done!

Quoting Illidan, I have two ideas that should be implemented to improve the usability of Mint and, potentially, other distros. Let's get moving! 1. Fallback to VESA. This is a thing that upsets me everytime I install the nVidia driver on a fresh install of Mint: after the reboot, the X system doesn'...

Re: (Solved)How to play more than one sound at a time on KDE CE?

I found this post here. Finally I can play two or more sounds at a time.

It's a shame a so good OS like Linux happens to have a so poor audio support... Hope this changes in the future.

Thx for the help.

Re: How to mount NTFS HD automatically on boot?

You assumed correctly. It's a NTFS partition, but it has no Windows on it. Last time I used it on a Windows machine I shutdowned it correctly. I will try your idea. There is a sdb. It's my second Pata with Ext3. Currently it mounts correctly at startup. Later and thx. EDIT: It worked now. Thx man. N...

Thx for the answer but I googled first before posting and already checked those links. None worked: the DMIX-alsa thing, esd, arts, jackd and so on...

Re: How to mount NTFS HD automatically on boot?

It's a Sata, it mounts as /media/sdc1. It's also a NTFS, just one partition. Do you have any idea what you changed or can you set everything back like it was before you "ticked," "added," and "played"? Yes, I have. Everytime I changed something and it didn't work I undid it. So, my system is not mes...

(Solved) How to mount NTFS HD automatically on boot?

Ok, I got all my system up and running smoothly now, everything works. But there is two small things that is annoying me and I would appreciate any help to solve them. First is to mount my NTFS Sata HD and an Ext3 Pata HD automatically on boot. Currently, both need to be mounted after login and they...

(Solved)How to play more than one sound at a time on KDE CE?

Hi there. My system runs ALSA instead of OSS. I got a 5.1 sound system working well. Everything is fine, EXCEPT only one app can use the sound at the same time. If one app, like Kopete, sings some system ring, for example, and my Amarok is playing at that time, it won't work. I found several ways to...
