Re: Upgrade Warnings: LMDE tracking TESTING [16-07-14]

Sadly not, that file was not present after installing stock version. But it should be there in the fresh LMDE 201403 installation. Or did you mean anything else by "stock version"? No I meant a fresh install of the 201403 MATE 64-bit LMDE iso. MD5 6192a558df6db67a10bda4e34deef22e 201403 MATE 64-bit...

Sadly not, that file was not present after installing stock version. Only preferences.d is there and I made sure it was empty before starting.

Re: LMDE Vs. Mint?

With Mint it's not a problem to use applications from an Ubuntu ppa. With LMDE it doesn't always work. In general, LMDE is not updated as often as mint. Lot's of developers tend to target Ubuntu as the default Linux environment so if you're lokking for a windows like experience (downloading packages...

Re: User Login Pictures - where are they?

The image shown on the login screen is the .face file stored under the users home directory.
It's a 96x96 pixel image.

Re: Upgrade Warnings: LMDE tracking TESTING [16-07-14]

As i've been seeing a certain amount of pain going from stock LMDE (MATE-iso 04.14) to Testing. I followed the instruction detailed /viewtopic.php?f=201&t=123323 and would like to document what breaks as of 26th July... $sudo apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade Fails to complete due to caja-exten...

Re: Would you like LMDE to be based on Stable, not on Testin

As of 03/14; LMDE is, for all intents, debian stable (stale). Nothing highlights the state of affairs more than the version of the nvidia drivers :(. I'd much rather see it really track testing, at least then there would be some point to the update mechanisms.

[Solved] Re: MDM theme removed after upgrade

I've recently updated MDM and MATE to 1.6.1 since doing the upgrade the login screen has become unthemed and is extremely ugly. Re-installing mint-mdm-themes 1.1.2 had no effect. Once I login I attempted to use mdmsetup Sytem->Administration->Login Window and from a root terminal. This results in an...

- Skype cannot be installed right now.

Is it safe to install systemd yet?, there are packages that try to pull in systemd as dependencies.

Default firewall in Mint.

Hi, Having just re-installed after far too long, I realised that I had at some point configured an iptables firewall. On a completely clean system, the firewall is set to allow all; even forwarding, this is bad. For future spins of LMDE at least could we at least disable forwarding by setting the ip...

Re: [WORKAROUND] Shares not mounting at startup.

I ran into this after an nfs update some time ago, I switched to not always mounting the shares. One question to ask yourself is, Do I really need to mount this stuff when I'm not logged in? In my case the answer was no. I have gdm mount the shares at login and logout. This approach would also work ...

Re: Steam

Zerozero, Ok, 99% is an exaggeration. But you have to admit, the release of Steam is going to draw a lot of people towards Linux, they are probably not going to be hardcore Linux people either. I would rather the all don't just go to Ubuntu by default. In trying to solve this, I found that 2.15 is o...

Steam

Hi, Given the amount of attention on the Steam release, I feel it's important that Linux Mint (Particularly LMDE) be in a position to take advantage of the situation. If the situation remains, we will see 99% of potential new LMDE user go to Ubuntu for the sole reason that Steam could not be install...

Re: (SOLVED) failed to run mintinstall as user root

I was seeing a similar problem. Software Manager was asking for the administration password, not the users password. The solution I used was to run : $gksu-properties Changed the Authentication mode from su to sudo and the users password was accepted. (After adding them to the sudo group) Personally...

Re: Linux 3.2.x, Ivy Bridge, Intel HD 4000 == total freezes?

I'm running a 3.5.2 kernel and can report that the freezes are gone. I still cannot use compiz due to it crashing far too often, at least it's not a complete lock up anymore.
