Re: Javascript and gobal variables

The global variables are not really global, I mean, the variable $PATH (or any other) is defined if you work with commands on shell, but isn't defined in other context (java, lua, C, javascript...)

Re: Cannot install Skype due to dependency errors;

As you can see, the required packages aren't in the repositories, so you can: Download them from another location (binaries for Debian, for example). Download, compile and install the source code. Add other repositories to your system (from another distro, or from the project's web site, if there).

Re: Hard Drive partition for new install

For me, 400Gb for install and 16Gb for swap are actually so much. 50Gb for install and 1Gb SWAP (if you have more than 1Gb RAM) is enough ;)

Re: Howto edit mateconf.xml via skript

You mean add some extra lines to any file? If so, you only need a command:

Code: Select all

sudo echo "line to add" >> /path/to/file
You can use the same command to add more lines. If you wish a python script, search a way to run commands from python (there is a way, I think).

Re: Cinnamon Sidebar?

Hmmm... The Mint menu has an option to assign a key combo to open it, it isn't? (I can't remember. Try it, right clic>options/config) Of course, using Avant Window Navigator (or cairo dock, docky or any other dock). Yup, you can install Cinnamon on various distros. Don't care about cleanup, if you h...

Re: Hard Drive partition for new install

If you'll install Mint in the SSD, then doesn't matter, it's the same if you connect or not other drives before install it.
However, you need to pay attention in order to install Mint in the right drive

Re: Deskbar replacement?

How about avant window navigator?
Note that it isn't a full replacement, since you need to keep the original Cinnamon panel (hidden if you wish) to accommodate the notification tray (because that AWN applet doesn't work on Cinnamon).

You forgot to say us what desktop manager are you using :?
Anyways, looks like you need to edit your locale, as described here (in Spanish, sorry). Aditionally, if you are using Cinnamon, check this.

You have a network problem I think, the MD5 MUST be the same that is listed in the downloads site, regardless the mirror used :?

Actually, you didn't need to format the drive, Mint (and many other Linux distros) can handle perfectly NTFS file systems ;)

Yeah, try to modify the /etc/profile file, but first make a backup. If it doesn't works, modify the /etc/bash.bashrc file.

Re: 'su -' in Linux Mint 13 KDE

The root account is disabled, so you can't go to login screen and enter using root as username. Why the "su" command open a root sesion then? Because your account is listed in the "sudo users". Remember that Linux handles all based on permissions. There are several permissions: to use networks, to m...
