Does this work? sudo echo -n 50 > /proc/acpi/video/*/LCD/brightness Should set the screen brightness to 50% Also, what window manager or desktop environment are you using? see if you can change the backlight from the terminal sudo apt-get install xbacklight then xbacklight -10 should decrease it be 10% and +10 should increase it by 10% Nothing happened. Hi thanks for quick reply but this fix didnt work. I have heard some people say that its because of the NB300bios but this isnt true as the brightness adjustment works fine with gOS linux. However, i dont want gOS linux i want linux mint!! Any further help appreciated.

No brightness adjustment on netbook
Hi all
Just put mint 8 onto my toshiba nb300 netbook and all works fab except....I cant adjust the brightness of the screen! The F key adjusters dont work and neither does the brightness applet. I am very keen on being able to adjust the brightness so any ideas?

Please please could some kind person give me a step by step of how to get linux mint 6 to give me the option of 1280 x1024 resolution. This is the optimum for my monitor but mint just does not give me the option of it. My graphics card is nvidia 8600gt i have tried the proprietary drivers. Thanks!

Hi i cant get the mplayer plugin for firefox to work on the bbc site. Just like to say congrats on Bianca....i thought bea was the best linux ever but Bianca has perfected it. Everything works nicely, glad it looks a little less ubuntuish....yum....minty. I even managed to get my Lexmark printer working! Deff time to get rid of windows completely.
