SATA Drive?

I am having the exact same problem. Thought I couldn't play audio cds at all until I found the fix you posted.

I was wondering... does your optical drive happen to be a SATA optical drive?

Re: Swap Resize Unrecognized

@dawgdoc: Thank you very much for your help so far. I will try the acpid solution you suggested once this Swap issue is ruled out. I was pretty sure that log was from AFTER the Swap resize... @mick55: Thanks to you, as well, for your input. Here are the results of the commands you posted. ian@Ian-LM...

Re: No Luck

@dawgdoc: I did as you said, but unfortunately nothing did the trick. Compiz wasn't the issue, nor were the proprietary drivers. (I disabled the proprietary ones, tried to suspend, enabled the open source ones, tried to suspend - both no luck). I expanded my Swap partition this morning, and just tes...

Re: Presario 900 - Hidden 802.11b Wireless Card?

I have yet to get around to attempting to get it to function, as it would involve reinstalling XP on time I am quite simply finding hard to come by. If I do get around to taking another look, I will be sure to let you know how it goes!

Unable to Suspend

I have never been able to suspend on this machine: http://echolynx.com/dwnld/perm/EII-hardinfo_report.html Fed up with this limitation, I've decided to dedicate the time to remedy this problem. Initially, the problem was that, upon clicking Suspend, the screen would fade to black, a blinking undersc...

Reinstall LM8

I reinstalled LM8 from the final edition, not the release candidate, and now my audio works. So there is something in upgrade process that must have broken.

Crazy Behavior - RuneScape? (Freezes, no audio)

Just yesterday I decided to log on to RuneScape for old times sake. Everything was working fine, but some time into playing the applet froze. Firefox was fine, but the applet was nonresponsive. So I killed Firefox and started over. A little while later, same problem. Some time through this cycle of ...

Re: HTTP Addresses in Upload Fields

Well, when I want to do it I will log into cPanel , open the File Manager, select upload, then paste the URL of the file I want uploaded into the field. After I hit okay, it downloads the file from that location, usually in seconds. For some reason, it seems that Mint's "Browse..." menu do...

HTTP Addresses in Upload Fields

I fiddle with quite a few websites in my free time, and have discovered that, in Windows, you can put an http:// address in the location field in an upload box, and my webserver will get the file directly from the webserver the URL points to. For some reason, this won't work in Linux Mint. Have any ...

Re: How to Preserve Mint's GRUB Through New OS Installations

@DrHu - Thank you for your reply. I am not exactly sure I follow what you are asking me to do, so please lend me some patience. /boot/grub/menu.1st doesn't exist, but /boot/grub/menu.lst does. Is that what you're talking about? Are you saying that making menu.lst readonly will prevent anything from ...

How to Preserve Mint's GRUB Through New OS Installations

[Problem] I, like many others, like to jump between operating systems. The recent release of Karmic Koala prompted this question to finally be asked, but I would like a complete solution to all OSes so the (appropriately credited) solution(s) can be moved to this first post and this topic made stick...

Re: Linux Mint 7 Will Not Boot

rich_roast: Thank you for your insight. To further our joint confusion concerning the numbers in parenthesis, they aren't the same every time they boot. I am thinking they have to do with the amount of time between the GRUB bootloader and the error message, but what do I know? Booting in recovery (v...

Linux Mint 7 Will Not Boot [56K Warning]

This started about a month and a half ago, but I've not had the chance to troubleshoot it until now. Description of Boot: 1. Power button pressed. 2. POST 3. GRUB menu (I had shortened the amount of time till autoboot to 3 seconds) 4. Linux mint splash screen with bar bouncing from left to right 5. ...

Firefox 3.5.1 (Shiretoko) Crashes in Flash Vid Fullscreen

This problem has been going on for a while, but I've not had the time lately to post about it. Ever since I upgraded to Shiretoko (When do I get "Firefox" back anyway!?) if I ever wanted to watch say a YouTube video full screen, I've had to use to Firefox 3.0.x to do so. If I tried it in F...

Not readily accessible. If there is it's buried under the keyboard or palmrest somewhere - very inaccessible.

Presario 900 - Hidden 802.11b Wireless Card?

I have had my Compaq Presario 900 laptop essentially since it was released in 2002. For the entire time I've had the laptop, I've had to resort to using a PCMCIA wifi adapter, as I hadn't any indication that one was built in. It turns out that my presumption may have been wrong, as I discovered in t...
