Re: vi command

In command mode (hit Esc to get there), type ":200,$d" then press Enter. In command mode, "." repesents the line you are on, "$" represents the last line, and "%" represents all lines.

Re: Java consuming RAM

I use the Waterfox browser. I noticed with both Mint 18 and 19 that my computer essentially comes to a halt when certain web pages are displayed. I'm not certain as to why but I suspect that they are running Java. I installed the Stop All Button addon in my browser to prevent those pages from reload...

Re: Saving listed URL's.

Another option is to create your own web page that contains all the links that you want. So it doesn't matter what OS or browser you use. Simply open the page (or make it your home page) that contains all the bookmarks.

Re: How To make custom links?

BTW, I use Linux mint 18.3 Cinnamon 32-bit. but I haven't yet had any luck. Isn't there like some sort of 'link file' That I can make, that just requires some line of code? I just want to change the name of my shortcut. I have aliases written into my .cshrc file (note I'm using C-shell) that I use ...

Right click on the directory and select "Make Link". Right click the link and rename it. Move the link to wherever you want it.
How do I right-click "Computer"?
I use Mate. I can put "Computer" on my Desktop by going into Control Center, selecting Desktop Settings, and selecting Computer.

Re: Linux Mint 18.3 Freezing while away from computer

Do you have a browser running? I have noticed a web site or two that jams my browser and my computer and essentially renders me powerless. This has happened with different machines and different versions of Mint. My work around is to install the Stop All Button addon. It keeps sites form running amo...

Re: I wonder - stay with Windows - switch to Linux Mint?

I can't put all my money into a build(we're poor), try linux, and then find out I want to go back to windows... So I need to iron out all my concerns BEFORE I start building. My two cents. Since Linux is free, this will not cost any more than building a Windows machine in the first place. Hard driv...

Re: 19.1 No HDMI sound

Have you tried going to the Control Center, selecting sound and playing with the settings? Particularly, the input settings. I never had a problem with previous versions of Mint. However, I installed 19 on a fairly new machine. I had to play a little bit to get sound out of the DP. So I suspect HDMI...

Wine not in Application List

I have wine-stable installed. I can use wine from the terminal. When I look at the list of applications, however, Wine does not appear in the list. It also does not appear as an option when I right click the programs that I would like to open with Wine. I am using Tara and have not had this issue wi...

I'd first ask why do I want to do it? I upgraded from 18.3 to 19.0 and I'm not convinced it was worth it.
Agreed. I have a new machine and an old machine. Mint 19 is more compatible with the hardware on my new machine, so I used it. However, I prefer using 18.3 on my old machine.

I had the same issue. I ended up doing a fresh install. I seemed to have a lot of install issues with 19 from a DVD. My install from a USB went fine. Have no idea if the two are related or not.

Re: no sound after Linux Mint 19 installed

I had the same problem. I went to Control Center and selected sound. Under sound effects, I selected "Default From Theme" since nothing had been selected. The Mint 19 install is the first one for which I recall having to do this.

I'd think twice about this, dual boot with WIndows and Linux on separate drives is the most reliable way to do it.
Also agree.
