Re: Cashless Society is getting closer

Any businesses that only accept cash I suspect of being scammers, tax dodging frauds, money laundering criminals, or about to go out of business because why else would they not purchase or rent a pay terminal? There is really a huge amount of places in Austria where the debit or credit card is not ...

Re: Mint Cinammon fails to launch

Oh sorry, I had not understood that it was still a problem.

If it was working fine and then the problem appeared I would think it was created by an update.
Did you update the kernel, the graphics drivers or some other critical parts recently?

Re: Mint Cinammon fails to launch

If you reinstalled the system over your previous install, you lost all your files. If you had no backup, there is little hope to recover them...

Re: Can't log in to wifi network

Can you update the kernel to a much newer version?
Maybe with an ethernet cable? I fear this version of the kernel is simply too old for your wifi chipset.

is this a good solution?
No because, you didn't read the question. And as a result, you can't answer it.

I enter pasta and tomato, you should reply pastatomato.

Re: nginx server: best OS?

I guess CentOs 7 should give you a more recent version of nginx.
Other than this, both should be ok for what you want to do.

As for Freeoffice I'm just saying it's proprietary software and in my book that warrants investigating up front: how is the for-profit company behind it making money from the users of their gratis product?
That's indeed a really good question. And it raises a lot of suspicion.

Do you have the same issue if you force the connexion to a specific server? Not using the smart keyword, but a location.

This is not about Linux Mint but about Windows, as the screenshot show. I moved the thread to Open chat.

Have you checked the md5sum of the iso? Does it match with the one given by the website?

An expert would be willing to do a lot more that giving me tangential help, such as untested suggestions. They would commit to working with me, and would know how to guide me to put the entire Mint file system into a file on the XP computer. I don't mean that they would come to my house in Maine. K...

I expect that the recovery partition is the only way to reinstall windows that your vendor gave you.
I would make a backup of this partition before deleting it.

Re: updating LMDE2 screws up LibreOffice

No need to install LMDE to check the version of LO. LMDE is based on Jessie, and as a result it has the same version of LO than Jessie. And it is indeed 4.3. Nothing wrong with this.
https://packages.debian.org/jessie/libreoffice

5.2 is available in the backports in case of needs.

Re: How to install testing (buster) kernel on LMDE 2?

I would be careful touching the kernel if you have an nvidia graphic card. Check before upgrading that the drivers compatible with your card are available. Before going to Buster I would check in the backports to see if the kernel there is enough for you. Currently 4.9 is available. And of course it...
