Re: Internet connection and ExpressVPN

Do you have the same issue if you force the connexion to a specific server? Not using the smart keyword, but a location.

Re: ISO file size error

This is not about Linux Mint but about Windows, as the screenshot show. I moved the thread to Open chat.

Have you checked the md5sum of the iso? Does it match with the one given by the website?

Re: No space left on device

An expert would be willing to do a lot more that giving me tangential help, such as untested suggestions. They would commit to working with me, and would know how to guide me to put the entire Mint file system into a file on the XP computer. I don't mean that they would come to my house in Maine. K...

Re: Deleting a recovery partition for Linux Mint

I expect that the recovery partition is the only way to reinstall windows that your vendor gave you.
I would make a backup of this partition before deleting it.

Re: updating LMDE2 screws up LibreOffice

No need to install LMDE to check the version of LO. LMDE is based on Jessie, and as a result it has the same version of LO than Jessie. And it is indeed 4.3. Nothing wrong with this.
https://packages.debian.org/jessie/libreoffice

5.2 is available in the backports in case of needs.

Re: How to install testing (buster) kernel on LMDE 2?

I would be careful touching the kernel if you have an nvidia graphic card. Check before upgrading that the drivers compatible with your card are available. Before going to Buster I would check in the backports to see if the kernel there is enough for you. Currently 4.9 is available. And of course it...

Re: Bad Windows but conquering the desktop war

As I said at the top of this message, I've seen this movie before. Now, I'm not trying to say this is all pointing towards the death of F/OSS, or GNU+Linux, or anything like that, but these are situations we do not need because you have bad architectural decisions casting an unwarranted and undeser...

Code: Select all

setHook(packageEvent("grDevices", "onLoad"),

function(...) grDevices::X11.options(type='cairo'))
I expect that the blank line is problematic.
It should looks like this:

Code: Select all

setHook(packageEvent("grDevices", "onLoad"),
function(...) grDevices::X11.options(type='cairo'))

Re: Linux is Not Windows

If you reuse weak passwords between the forums and your email/bank accounts, this is entirely your fault. These information could have been stolen from Linux Mint forum hack, or from any other hack in the world. And in my opinion, a Linkedin hack is more valuable to open a Credit. Now let's go back ...

Re: Login Screen at Start up

In the system parameters, you should find an administration section. In this section, you have an item for the connexion window. Here you can activate the password request. I guess you should uncheck the box for automatic login.

Re: Tor anyone?

Assuming all the exit nodes are under control from an agency, it still doesn't mean a lot.
There are 2 nodes between you and the exit, and they prevent the exit node to know where the data are from.

If you use https connexions, the exit node doesn't see much.

My condolences. :cry: You have my sympathy... Best day of my working life. After more than 3 hours, the IT gave up and stopped investigating why my system doesn't work anymore. They gave me an empty system where I can only read my mails (useful...) and will reinstall W10 again today. :lol: The IT g...

There is something wrong here.
The list of mirrors wasn't updated since May 2017. And I can't find it in Github. Therefore, your mirror is not listed.

As soon as I can get my hand on it, I will add your mirror in it. The package concerned is mint-mirrors
