vboxmanage error and solution
I had set up a new VM for Linux Mint 21.2. When I attempted to increase the vram using the vboxmanage program, I ran into this error message: "VBoxManage: error: Could not find a registered machine named ..." After many attempts, I realized what the issue was. The name of the VM had a spac...

Cinnamon desktop - running programs freeze periodically
I'm not sure if this is a hardware issue or a Cinnamon issue. Physical RAM appears to not be the issue (though the amount of RAM might be - 64Gb). Cinnamon desktop is the latest. Linux Mint Version 21.2. Description of problem: I'll be running the normal programs, like web browsing, games, 3D printi...

Re: A statement about the use of AI chatbots like ChatGPT
Being that this sub-forum is an open chat and not necessarily tech support, I put forth the following question for the readers: What would be the odds of you being in favor of running a chatgpt clone on your LM system? (as opposed to using the commercial chatgpt on the Internet)

Re: A statement about the use of AI chatbots like ChatGPT
Furthermore, how does one judge that the output from chatgpt is truthful? (on point and not garbage or obsolete)

Re: Linux and Artificial Intelligence
A thumbs up for heading off pollution by chatgpt. What everyone who reads this thread needs to understand is that AI only understands numbers and is taught to look for patterns in the numbers. No emotions, no social aspects to an answer, no politics, or anything else which make us human. AGAIN, the ...

Re: Use Warpinator with other OSes (Linux, Windows, Android, iOS)
A work around for MacOS: Install VirtualBox on to MacOS. Create a Linux Mint VM. Set up the Linux Mint VM with a shared folder (accessible by the VM and MacOS). Setup the Linux Mint VM network to use bridged connectivity to the network port of the MacOS machine. Boot the Linux Mint VM and start up ...

git-lfs-prune, Where is it?
According to Ubuntu's documentation, git-lfs-prune is supplied by the git-lfs package. I installed the git-lfs package from the LM repository. Alas, the git-lfs-prune program is missing. Was that particular part of the Ubuntu package not included in the LM version of git-lfs? reference: https://manp...

Access Denied - Sucuri Website Firewall
Don't ask, you may get blocked. A simple query of "python3.10 and pandas " invokes the ire of the nanny. As a long time user of Linux Mint, I am disappointed that simple queries can result in the loss of access to the forums. The problem with using a search engine (as suggested by one of t...

Linux Mint sqlite3 support for foreign_keys
I'm using the sqlite3 module in python 3. After some investigation, I found that the sqlite3 module was compiled without support for the foreign keys option. Without this option being compiled into sqlite3, building a relational database is not possible. :x Is there any way to get a sqlite3 module f...

Re: Wireless disconnects from router [SOLVED]
The fix to this situation was to download the latest driver source code, purge all previous drivers from the hard drive and compile the source as a DKMS driver.

Re: Moving from MATE to Cinnamon via new install
Update: I used the backup tool as suggested. Works well. Only one issue with the backup tool: When restoring the backed up list of installed programs, if the backup tool encounters a installation problem, it wipes out the list. So if you use the backup tool to make the list of installed programs, ma...

SO much for that second tip. After posting my previous reply, my wifi promptly disconnected me. So I deleted the extra file.

Re: Wireless disconnects from router
Thank you for the tips. I am currently using the driver rtl8812au-5.13.2. The first tip is for an earlier version of rtl8812au which no longer works with the latest kernel. I've tried the second tip and will let you know what happens.

The title says it all. I upgraded my graphics card and monitor. MATE desktop is giving me issue with certain programs. I tried the Cinnamon desktop and so far everything works as expected. Wireless disconnects from router [SOLVED]
I have noticed that at random times, my LM wifi network will disconnect from my router. The disconnect is not an Internet problem. It's an annoyance as a simple reconnect fixes the issue until the next time it occurs. The power management is turned off for the wifi adapter. Has anyone else noticed s...
