Re: using rsync w/ external /media eats root storage

Although your --include's look weird, rsync is nothing but a fancy (s)cp: if your / filled up while copying to /media/kurt/what/ever then the only possible conclusion is that /media/kurt/what/ever lived on the / partition; that you neglected to insert/mount the external drive, that is. To fix, be s...

Just out of curiosity can you paste back the results of sudo du -hxd1 /media with the external unplugged.

Code: Select all

kurt@cm600-e51-lmde3:~$ sudo du -hxd1 /media
[sudo] password for kurt:
123G	/media/kurt
4.0K	/media/root
123G	/media

using rsync w/ external /media eats root storage

While creating new /home partition backup (by folder groups) to an external USB HDD w/ an RSYNCs script, Cindy ran out of / space. I boosted root partition from 30 to 140 GB in stages. After adding 30 GB and quickly running out of root space, at 2nd restart w/ 80 GB more the / usage was 49%. While r...

Re: [SOLVED] Scroll Wheel Emulation for T-BC21 Marble Mouse Trackball

Yesterday, I looked again for a solution to my trackball as scroll-wheel programming problem (marble mouse as scroll wheel Debian at DuckDuckGo) and I found https://www.hutsky.cz/blog/2017/02/scroll-emulation-with-trackman-marble-in-debian-9/ This article started in 2017 with an evdev solution, but ...

Re: Scroll Wheel Emulation for T-BC21 Marble Mouse Trackball

Continuing to try to nail down the problem I ran across the suggestion to see the log file. Cindy has a logs reader but it didn't show anything I needed for this even in what it called the Hardware log, so I found Xorg in /var/log . Xorg.0.log Lines 467-469 [ 24.885] (II) config/udev: Adding input d...

Re: Scroll Wheel Emulation for T-BC21 Marble Mouse Trackball

I found what looks like the evdev package, Xserver-xorg-input-evdev for debian stretch (1:2.10.5-1) https://packages.debian.org/stretch/xserver-xorg-input-evdev ( https://manpages.debian.org/stretch/xserver-xorg-input-evdev/evdev.4.en.html ) in the standard repo, so I installed it with Synaptic, whi...

Scroll Wheel Emulation for T-BC21 Marble Mouse Trackball

I had been using scroll wheel emulation for my Logitech T-BC21 (USB) Marble Mouse in Betsy for a year with a script to emulate a normal scroll wheel through xorg under the device name of 'Logitech USB Optical Mouse' (id=12) which invoked “evdev” properties. Now in LMDE3 the closest device identifica...

youtube-dl "token" not in video

Installed LMDE3 yesterday and installed youtube-dl today from the standard repos. (I used it a lot with LMDE2 before.) On every video I get the error: ERROR: P2x39_x5h_4: "token" parameter not in video info for unknown reason In its Github page I see that this error is reported fixed by using the cu...

Re: LMDE3 install gets grub rescue after disk eject

It was late last night and I neglected to say, since it probably involves machine dependencies, what my machine is. m/b MSI 785GM P45
AMI BIOS Ver 11.5 081010

It's working, so the problem is not mine now, only solved by a one-time workaround.

LMDE3 install gets grub rescue after disk eject

In the last week I installed Cindy on two other similar BIOS machines, Athlon 64 and Phenom II (separate root and home in each) no boot problems. This one after clicking to restart and it ejected the install disk, I saw no HDD activity light, no messages, no sound. for several minutes. I tapped the ...

Re: Betsy boot now fails w/ dm-raid45 not found

Thanks you Laurent85 for the bug report link. Although my problem went away when I re-installed lmde2, while doing so I saw the message flash a couple of times (in separate attempts to get it to work in an external USB drive box), but it didn't abort it.

Re: Betsy boot now fails w/ dm-raid45 not found

The issue is now clearly, why did it start (!) looking for the obsolete (or non-existent) module dm-raid45? - in a never raided machine? The modules.dep file is identical to that of a separate new install from the same iso - line 1740 of each defining the dependencies of dm-raid.ko where the first e...

Betsy boot now fails w/ dm-raid45 not found

Installed the LMDE2 MATE x64 Aug 8, '15 (downloaded and MD5 checked a week earlier) into my Abit AG8 machine as sda1 w/ 3 GB, and GRUB2, leaving LM13 (sda5), and XP (sdb1). It ran fine as my spare machine - used occasionally. Until now. The boot stops with "modprobe: module dm-raid45 not found in mo...

Wireless NICs won't connect

Continuing to set up my Compaq / HP nx6125 (Turion 64, 1GB, 60GB) with LMDE2-MATE to connect wirelessly. It has a built-in BCM4318 for which I found the b43 driver and installed it according to http://www.linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43/ . That's WLAN0. Then I plugged in a USB Wi-fi dongle ma...

gnome-terminal runs as x-terminal

In my nx6125 (10 y.o. 1 GB, 60 GB, AMD turion 64 laptop) I replaced XP with LMDE2. With 4 GB swap it actually runs decently. I tried sudo update-alternatives --config x-terminal-emulator and it showed the terminal emulator options - the default gnome-terminal, and mate-terminal. Both execute (from x...

SOLVED] winecfg drives error: Failed to connect to mount man

I had the right answer: I had to delete the .wine and .wine64 folders and uninstall wine. I also had not seen this clue from another post: have to run sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade Then winecfg ran and the drives tab looked good. Now i'm getting a Bad EXE format response from wine when...

Re: winecfg drives error: Failed to connect to mount manager

Sorry, I forgot this trick: Before the clean install (while in LM13 x86) I backed up the home folder to a backup drive. After the clean install I copied the backed up home folder to /home. I see now it has .wine (old date) and .wine64 (new date). Should I delete both, uninstall wine and reinstall? A...
