Failed booting Live DVD of Linux Mint 17.3 & 18 due to X server problems.

I'm mostly a Mac OS X user, but for the last few years I've been running a dual-boot configuration with Linux Mint. I've installed and run Linux Mint 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 with no problems at all. I've always downloaded the iso and burned it to DVD, booted the DVD, installed Linux Mint, and it's alw...

[SOLVED] Partition called "180 GB Volume"

I'm running LinuxMint 16 Mate 64-bit. When I installed this, during the partition setup screen I said I wanted to mount /dev/sda3 to /media/LinuxHD. After the installation, my desktop has a disk icon with the words "180 GB Volume" underneath it. I was hoping the words beneath the icon were...

Re: LinuxMint 15:Cinnamon:64-Bit - Showing hidden files

Hidden files can be made visible by pressing Ctrl+H. Same key combo works for making them invisible. Thanks, this works for me. But out of curiosity, is this stated anywhere?, or how does one learn this other than by asking, as I did? Ron When, in Nemo, you go to the menu bar and select View , ther...

LinuxMint 15:Cinnamon:64-Bit - Showing hidden files

When I was on LinuxMint 14 with the Cinnamon DE, the file manager had an option where you could choose to "show hidden and backup files" under: Edit->Preferences->Views tab. I don't see this at this same location with LinuxMint 15 and the Cinnamon DE. Does anybody know where this is locate...

rderosier wrote: I might later try installing LinuxMint 13 Cinnamon 64-Bit itself from the DVD

I did this, and the problem goes away.
I also did it again with LinuxMint 14 Cinnamon 64-Bit, and I don't see the
problem there, also.

Re: Odd behavior of gnome-terminal in Cinnamon

Perhaps there is something else in your terminal profile that is causing this? I can't imagine what that would be. In case it makes a difference, here's how I came to have gnome-terminal 3.4.1.1. I installed LinuxMint 13 Mate 64-Bit. After a few months of testing it, I thought I'd play with Cinnamo...

I concur, and that is how I will proceed from here.

Thanks for the help.

Odd behavior of gnome-terminal in Cinnamon

I'm running LinuxMint 13 Cinnamon 64-bit. I've also installed backports using Update Manager. I might also point out, I've just started using Cinnamon a couple of days ago, and still in the process of getting things set up the way I want things to work (as I've already done in Mate, which I've been ...

Re: Unexpected logout in Cinnamon

This link should have taken you to this article: set acpi_osi=Linux here in the Linux Mint forum. Sorry, I completely overlooked the link aspect of your post. I wll be happy to change this setting, but first, what is this set to prior to my changing it? Is there a way for me to check it by doing so...

Re: Unexpected logout in Cinnamon

So for the moment, the only thing which I can recommend, because + it fixed the irregular spontaneous crashes of Cinnamon for me on an a Dell notebook + it can be implemented easily and can be reverted easily in case it does not help is activating the kernel setting acpi_osi=linux . mdm --version M...

Re: Unexpected logout in Cinnamon

I understand what you say about updates 1,2,3,4,5. What my "latest and greatest" meant was as far as Update Manager was concerned by default (since I'm so new to Linux that I don't even know how to change it - and don't need to for my purposes). I'm not a heavy Linux user (I'm more a Mac g...

Re: AnnoyingTitle-Bar action in Cinnamon

Ron, not a problem :) anyway if you're running maya you can upgrade to 1.6.x following this >> http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2225 NB read the small FAQ available in that page; this upgrade was tested and it's known to work with maya but regression might occur I will try the backports; I wasn't aware...

Re: AnnoyingTitle-Bar action in Cinnamon

You need to disable snapping in the Cinnamon settings that is what is causing this. It's a feature from Windows 7. Apparently, what you suggest is not in the Cinnamon version that I'm running with LinuxMint 13. I just found the following on the internet that does work for me: This worked for me (Li...

Unexpected logout in Cinnamon

I just started using LinuxMint 13 Cinnamon 64-Bit yesterday. A few moments ago, I was logged in and scrolling through the LinuxMint forums and all of a sudden my screen went black for a couple of seconds and I was logged out of Cinnamon. Without me doing anything, I was then logged into Mate, which ...

Re: No terminal in Cinnamon?

I've had Linux Mint 13 MATE 64-Bit installed a few months now, and I'm very happy with it. I run the Terminal app a lot, since I do a lot of command-line stuff. Today, I decided to install CINNAMON alongside MATE. I click on "Open in terminal" whereever I find it, and nothing happens. Ter...
