I'm not sure of my technology but i have downloaded linuxmint 18.1 beta to my hard drive. Or should i have downloaded it to my dvd disk? Ok! I have figured something out. The other day when i started having the password problem I changed the size of the largest partition (windows) graphicly with "G Parted". I made it half the size it was by clicking and dragging . after i got done doing that and not able to get into anythin...

I have a password and I know what it is . for some reason it quit working on boot . I actually discovered it would not work when I was trying to use software package manager .

time Reversion [solved]

I can't get my time setting to stick. Anything i click off or on just reverts back as i stop the clicking.
the hour minute second settings always reverts back from 12 hour to 24 hour. Must be a setting somewhere but i don't know where?

thanks fabien: I have actually had every distro of mint since 7 or something like that .But the key is i HAD it. I have never done a lot with and to be honest I don't have that much TO do.. I like playing with it . I put the same thing on it as i do windows but I am gonna start storing my pics on it...

thank you Fabien: I did use the partitions command and that gave me a clean boot for linuxmint 18. It is working great . THANKS. I'm wondering why there are so many windows partitions and why windows has a 900 GB partition along with several small partitions. Recovery i understand but all the others...

need a password[ solved ]

I can't get into anything like software manager or other where i need my password.
I told install to log me in without a password and i don't remember ever having to put a password in during install.
I guess i need a password. Where do i add or change my password?

Fabien: I did issue the command you gave me placing it in UEFI mode. I did install then reinstall linuxmint 18 then rebooted the computer and it came up windows 10. Shouldn't it go to a grub window so I could choose the operating system? I thought the installation should make that happen? I did not ...

In your grub menu, there seems to be an entry for windows : "menuentry 'Windows Boot Manager (on /dev/sda2)'" (see boot-info on line 447). Does that entry work ? All entrys but one in that window go to windows 10, even the 2 ubuntu entries go to windows. the last entry takes me to my live...

Grub does not look like it did on past distros. I have to go to boot sequence in setup f12 to even get it to come up
and it does not have a windows boot option just linuxmint18
