SSD Install?

I had some concerns about putting LM 17.3 (or 18 Sarah) on an SSD. It seems that TRIM only runs automatically via cron on Samsung/Intel SSDs? Is that true? and are there special settings for /etc/fstab I have to do like noatime and discard? There's so much conflicting and outdated information out th...

Re: Cannot connect to Windows 10 computers

So I set up a password for my Windows machine and now I can seem to connect to my Windows machine and access all the folders. :) Any way this can be done without having a password for my Windows machine. I'm the only one who uses the machine so I've no need for a password. I have never had any luck...

UFW Logging Repeated Message Every 3 Minutes

Can anyone help me understand why I'm getting log error messages for SRC=192.168.255.2 DST=224.0.0.251 ? It's saying [UFW BLOCK] but I don't understand why because 224.0.0.251 is a standard multicast address so why would it block that? I use gufw to modify ufw and I have the profile set to Home and ...

Re: Unattended Upgrades (the horrors!)

I can't really get the unattended-upgrade configuration file right. I've just decided to scrap the idea really after considering the pros/cons. I've also decided just to make a notification script like BlackVeils has. Dont give up your idea - it is a great one. Because "these guys" follow some unwr...

Unable to Remount Network Share

I'm having an issue when resuming from sleep mode on Linux Mint 17.3. My network share will not mount again even with mount -a. How can I get this to remount when I resume from sleep? I'm having troubles with the network share at the specified IP address. My fstab # /etc/fstab: static file system in...

Re: Unattended Upgrades (the horrors!)

you wont necessarily want that exact script, you could simply have the notify-send command run every couple of days or something to remind you to check for updates. personally i've added it as a startup program, so i used this command for the startup item: bash -c "/path/to/script.sh" you need to s...

Re: Unattended Upgrades (the horrors!)

yeah.. not a good idea. if you want to notifed in a less passive way, that can be easily done with a basic little script, of which you could run in any way you want. the key command in there will be notify-send for a pop-up notification. I'd be interested to try this. I'll look into it. As for ever...

Unattended Upgrades (the horrors!)

Hello all, I'm a new user to Linux Mint but not Linux in general. I was researching ways of automatic updates for Linux Mint. Now, I know, you're going to say it's a bad idea, and, yes, I realize that. I was wondering though if this plan would work and I'd appreciate your input. I was wondering if I...

Getting 1024x768 working on Asus 1005-HA

Hi I'm running Linux Mint LXDE edition and I have installed jupiter-support-eee and jupiter but when I switch my resolution to 1024x768 I can't move my mouse to the bottom of the screen to open the menu and such. I was wondering if I could force my netbook to this resolution or do something with xra...
