Re: Cannot access files

Further to this, it's sdb1 that is mounted as /media/hexdump/MyData. And I want it mounted as /media/MyData. Also, I want the standard /home to point to MyData/hexdump I try and keep the users files on a separate drive as it makes installing a new operating system a lot easier. I dont know how to do...

Re: Korean keyboard plus new applications

For some reason the Install New Applications has started working again, though it takes forever to start up after I enter the password. One curious thing related to the language preferences is that when I add Korean as the 2nd language in Region preferences, all the page headings, options, etc in In...

Korean keyboard plus new applications

Running 18.2, KDE 5.8.9 1) I am trying to enable Korean typing for one of the users. I have been looking everywhere for about 2 days now. I can get the indicator in the bottom bar to switch between Korean and English but I cannot type in Korean. I need to be able to do it in Libre office writer as w...

Re: I just changed out the keyboard and now

Still trying to figure this out. I agree that changing the keyboard was just coincidental. I did a memchk86 and it was unclear if there were errors. I put in a new memory stick anyway and it still hung up. Is it possible ( likely ? ) that the power supply is causing this. I am running cinnamon off o...

I just changed out the keyboard and now

I get a black screen !! 18.2. I changed from a Compaq keyboard with the round connector to a usb keyboard thinking that I could start using the special keys. Well After rebooting I get the Mint 18.2 splash then a black screen. Rebooted got into the setup so the keyboard works, then while booting, I ...

Re: Upgrade from opensusd

Ok,but that flies in the face of a lot of recommendations that suggest keeping my data files on a separate drive from the operating system. Also in the mint home there is a folder titled desktop. I also have one from my opensuse setup. What do you think will happen if I copy my opensuse desktop con...

Re: How do install the kde desktop ?

Thank you and how do I tell which desktop that I installed ?
I know that it sounds silly but I didn't know that I had a choice at download time.

Re: Upgrade from opensusd

[quote="austin.texas"]The easiest way to do it is to re-install. You would designate the old /home partition as /home during installlation, and do not format that partition, of course. You can make that a /home partition without re-installing, but it is somewhat complicated, and if this is a new ins...

Re: Upgrade from opensusd

Oops, that copying is not what I want to do as it will put my personal files on the same drive as Mint. Thank you Fabien and did I read you correctly that I could have pointed /Home to my data during the install ? I can do it again but it is scary to have oldhome in the line of fire, so to speak. I ...

Re: Upgrade from opensusd

It's possible to make your old home become your new one, but this is advised against. Indeed you are most likely to get conflicts with config files of different applications. From Mint you should be able to read the partition where all those files are. So I advise to copy these files to your new ho...
