Re: USB Bluetooth 5.0 (Realtek 8771): Stuck on searching

I did a quick search (EG https://www.learningpenguin.net/2018/01/30/install-realtek-rtl8812au-wifi-driver-linux/) and it seems your Kernel is the likely problem. The solution is to wait and see if Realtek release a newer driver (check their website frequently) or buy a new dongle which explicitly st...

Re: Can't print after LM20 upgrade

Just a thought, does your printer support driverless printing? I did a quick google and could only find Samsung proprietary drivers at http://www.openprinting.org/printer/Sam ... M262x_282x. If you install these, set them up, and the printer works then it rules out network issues.

Re: MOK Management Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon installation

Sorry for late response but this is a new problem for me. You mention that it may be due to a proprietary codec; have you tried removing all proprietary drivers/codecs and rebooting. Do you need the proprietary codecs? Did you update from Mint 19 or do a new install of Mint 20? If you updated then m...

Re: Bluetooth problem

Good morning PAL-Thai1357, sorry for late reply. I was interested in your missing BT applet in Windows. My wife use Widows and the NBT applet keeps disappearing. Only a reboot restores it. That is why we use Linux!

Re: 19.3 Cinnamon to 20 MATE Clarifications

Download the LM20 ISO to your hard drive using LM19. Use the Mint USB Stick Formatter to format a USB stick and then the Mint USB Image Writer to install the ISO file to the USB stick. Backup your data to a spare disk/USB stick or whatever. Boot from the USB stick and the installer will overwrite th...

Re: Bluetooth problem

This message means that your computer does not have Bluetooth installed, common in older models. On some laptops there is a switch to turn on bluetooth. An alternative is to buy a USB Bluetooth dongle.

I have never heard of MOK management but a quick search found "https://askubuntu.com/questions/950395/ ... ad-on-boot". That may assist you, good luck

complete success, not at all angry

This is in response to all the posts under "complete failure ....". One contributor even suggested that LM20 was not ready based on a few failures. Mostly the successes do not bother to post but there must have been thousands of upgrades by now which have been a complete success, like mine. I did ha...

Re: Thunderbird refuses to use my default profile

Just installed 68.3 to both Mint19 and LMDE and it works fine. Had to modify .thunderbird/profiles .ini in the home directory to point to the default profile.
Debian and Ubuntu seem to provide slightly different versions as they install them in different folders.

Re: Thunderbird refuses to use my default profile

Mint has now updated to 68.2.2 but it does not solve the problem. Mint is using 68.2.2 +0ubuntu.18.04.01 and LMDE is using 68.2.2-1-deb9u1. After updating in Mint the LMDE version claims it is too old to use the Mint profile. I created a new profile for LMDE in the hope there would be a sync option ...

Re: Thunderbird refuses to use my default profile

I agree this is annoying. I use Mint 19 and LMDE which both access a common profile. LMDE uses V68.2.2 so after using that I cannot open that profile in Mint 19. I would not expect a minor point upgrade to have such an impact. I tried downloading V68.2.2 but only V6.3 is offered. Of course I always ...

Re: Folder order changing

Thank you gm10, this has puzzled me for years but I could never get a solution. I had discovered that the sort order was correct if you set Nemo to open into a different folder. This indicated a problem with the Home folder but i did not investigate further.

Re: GIMP Locks Mint 19.1

The solution suggested by AndyFx works but can be achieved a bit easier. I used Meld to do a comparison of the original and new files which isolated the problem to .config/dconf/user. Unfortunately this is hex file so it is difficult to isolate the exact changes. Now you can just delete .config/dcon...

Re: Switch to another mirror - Update Manager

Hi Redlined. Thanks for your help, I have now set the preferences and see how they work. The "Suggest Local ..." is only useful on first installation so it makes sense to turn it off. I am not sure if that is the same mesage I was receiving which indicated that my local server was unreachable; that ...

Switch to another mirror - Update Manager

Whenever I open the Update Manager it automaticall tries to refresh and gives me a message "Switch to another mirror". I normally use aarnet. If I switch to Internode it switches ok. Next day Internode is allegedly offline so I switch back to aarnet and it works ok. I have also just discovered I can...

External Monitor to display Grub menu

First, apologies. This is not a Mint problem but I have searched the internet without success and I know there is a lot of experience on this forum. I have a Toshiba R50C which I used with VGA connection to my external monitor with no problem. The Grub menu always appeared on the external monitor. I...

Where are Crash Reports[SOLVED]

I have seen reference to the "System Report Tool" and crash reports in the 18.3 release notes but I cannot find this tool. Does it only make itself visible if a crash report has been generated?
