Re: Location of "LMDE 6 Faye" string
The string is also contained in /etc/issue.net. All on it's own so no need to use grep or other terminal command

Inkscape can be installed as a dependant of another program such as Openshot so it may not be obvious that somebody installed it.

Re: Problems with Terminator as default terminal
Fortunately Termy has solved the problem. Here are the steps that worked for me: To make an alternative to gnome-terminal the default terminal - such that it works when double clicking a bash file. 1. sudo touch /usr/bin/run-in-terminal 2. sudo chmod 755 /usr/bin/run-in-terminal 3. sudo chown 0:0 /u...

Re: How to change the default terminal for opening applications without gui?
Thanks Termy. This has solved the problem. At first I found your gsettings command did not appear to work although no error was reported. I installed dconf and used that to modify the appropriate key and everything worked fine. Of course it is important not to use Mint's System Settings to change th...

Re: How to change the default terminal for opening applications without gui?
Thanks for your response. I have tried running update alternatives which does not help and I created a symlink to lxterminal and called it "gnome-terminal". This works if just trying to open a terminal but, you are right, something else is going on when trying to open a bash script. For no...

Re: How to change the default terminal for opening applications without gui?
You are not alone. This same problem was raised by sophie_k in October and I have always had the same problem using lxterminal as my Preferred Terminal. I even tried creating a link to a bash file on the desktop and setting "Open With" to lxterminal. When I clicked on the link and selected...

Locale problem after update[SOLVED]
After a recent update files in nemo are sorting 'case sensitive'. My locales are all en_AU.UTF8 but dates in some apps are printing in USA format. These are in apps written in Java17. I have followed all the advice to update and configure locales without success. I also use Mint 21 and that does not...

Re: partition and back up help
As an alternative view, I am a proponent of using partitions. Yes, create a Data partition in addition to your home and swap partitions. Create one ext4 partition on the 2Gb drive. I use BackinTime as you can create multiple profiles and save the backups to different folders. Do not try and save all...

Re: Cinnamon Menu cut and paste issues
The program being used is cinnamon-menu-editor. This behaviour occurs because the the default menu depends on a 'desktop' file in /usr/share/applications. When you paste it actually creates a modified copy of this desktop file in /home/NAME/.local/share/applications. It does not delete the original ...

Re: [SOLVED]BackInTime display issue
I have managed to solve my problem. I have modified ~/.config/qt5ct/qt5ct.conf. Under 'Appearance' I have added the line 'icon_theme=Mint-Y' and modified the 'style' from Motif to gtk2. This has solved the problem but does not explain how the original setup was created. I installed 'backintime' on a...

BackInTime display issue
I use backintime-qt in Mint 20 and I can start as myself or using sudo but the displays are totally different. As sudo the display is very nice with icons on the toolbar and the standard display font. As myself the font is much larger and the icons are replaced with text. See attached screenshot. Th...

I have tested both scenarios in Mint 20.2 Uma on a Toshiba laptop but could not reproduce the problem. Could it be a desktop or Motherboard problem?

Re: How to upgrade to Linux Mint 20.2
I upgraded my test system with no problem so then tried my production machine which has a virtually identical Mint/Cinnamon installation. Everything worked fine until I tried to run usrmerge. Then I got the message: "Setting up usrmerge (23) ...cp: cannot create regular file '/usr/lib64/../lib/...

Thunderbird "null" appears in status line.
Using V 78.7.1 in Mint 20.1 I have just noticed the word "null" appearing in the status line next to the WiFi icon. Also it does not appear to be checking my mail on startup. Previously the status line was filled with messages about "Checking mail.." etc and reporting if no mail ...

Re: Celluloid - how to install again? - SOLVED
I had exactly the same error message and celluloid would never display, in fact it was in an infinite loop. The suggested fix "gsettings reset io.github.celluloid-player.Celluloid mpv-options" solved the problem. Hopefully the Celluloid developers can supply a permanent fix.

Re: [SOLVED]Mint 20.1 upgrade errors with external Monitor
Thanks but I have now found the problem. My version of "/home/michael/.config/autostart/cinnamon-settings-daemon-xrandr.desktop" contained a link to "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/cinnamon-settings-daemon/csd-xrandr". Once I reset the link to "/usr/libexec.csd-xrandr" the p...
