Re: Microphone not recognised
Got it! in the "sound preferences dialog", enter the "hardware" tab. (make sure your preferred sound card is selected obviously) click on the "profile" list, and choose "<your preferred output> + <your preferred input> " In my case the profile selected only chose an output, and NO input. Now my mic ...

Re: Microphone not recognised
I have the same problem as the OP. Microphone is hooked up, and using alsamixer I can turn up the volume for my SB audigy's microphone input, and even get audio from the microphone, sounds great--- Except that Mint doesn't see the microphone as an available input, and hence the audio from the microp...

Mint without a desktop environment
I don't want to make a distro based on Mint. I want Mint to release their os without a desktop environment as a server edition.
Please?
It's really nothing but compiling an image without desktop environment or dependencies for a DE.
Pretty please?

Re: Poll: Desktop environments
... I must admit that I still use Ubuntu, presently 12.04, for my server, but of course that's without any desktop. If Mint comes up with a clean server version that works well, I'll use that. I'll rather support Mint than Ubuntu... I've mentioned this same thing several times on this board. I wish...

Re: failed to start x server Mint 13 Cinnamon
Hi, I seem to encounter the X server problem after I've updated the FGLRX graphics driver on my AMD HD6410D (at least I THINK that's the problem), and have needed to reinstall twice. I've included radeon.modeset=0 (as I have an AMD processor hence I think an ATI chipset) after "quiet splash" in GRU...

Re: [Closed] Recent update broke windows share browsing
Samba browsing checklist? lol. Has samba browsing of windows shares worked on Ubuntu 12.04 or LM13?? As far as I know it just doesn't work "out of the box" for "listening" for windows computers and listing them. It's well documented. But I'll see what I can do with samba alone to get it to work with...

Re: Recent update broke windows share browsing
What I am going to do is get rid of winbind, and remove that 'wins' entry I made in nsswitch.conf. Basically leaving my system stock. Then I will find another way to enable windows browsing by hostname using nautilus. In the meantime, I'll manually mount the needed shares into my filesystem with an ...

Re: Recent update broke samba share browsing
Hello. Thanks for that tip. I'm still used to apt, mintupdate is the first gui update utility I've used. So, the only packages I see that are related to networking that were updated when windows share browsing broke: bind9-host dnsutils libdns81 libbind9-80 Off to examine some things. Gut feeling is...

Recent update broke windows share browsing
Browsing windows shares stopped working on both of my LM13 Mate machines after I ran mintupdate on both machines a few days ago. (I wish I had paid attention to the packages that were updated), I can no longer see windows shares in "network servers". This worked fine since I started using LM13, I di...

Re: Wine can't find libGL.so.1 after UP6 (LMDE 64bit)
I had major issues with libglx.so.1, (using Nvidia proprietary drivers)
I had to hardlink "/usr/lib/nvidia-current/xorg/libglx.so.xxx.xx" to "/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so", so the kernel loaded the proper GL module.

Re: Poll: Desktop environments
I just returned to mint today and installed 14 cinnamon. Not any love here for gnome since 3 shell showed up on the scene and 2 was discontinued. I went back to debian sid for awhile, but I'm no big fan of their no branding all software free philosophy. I switched to opensuse factory and ran kde un...

Re: Dual Boot XP & Linux Mint 13 Mate
Square one is better than nowhere sometimes. Of course who knows what went wrong the first time and if it will happen again, but if you risk it, maybe it will work right this time... Your Mint is gone because the restore you did would not account for new partitions, instead it's just rewriting the w...

Re: Forks: Compiz-MATE 0.8.8, mate-globalmenu 0.7.10 (LMDE)
I have compiz installed on my laptop at home, Mint 13 Mate 64-bit and installed compiz plus emerald the long winded way. I'm wondering if I should switch to this fork as it's geared towards mate as my compiz install is glitchy in regards to desktop cube and a few other oddities. Are these 'fixed' o...

Yes yes yes, and somewhere along the line I read that same article.4w6gte wrote:

You could check for proprietary drivers for your video card. Sometimes it's the only way to get proper resolution.

If you have the Mate desktop:
Menu- Preferences- Desktop Settings. Uncheck what you don't want.
