Re: Could not connect to network CUPS server

Hmm, resounding response on my last post/question.... Turns out the problem I was having is due to a bug in Debian. Thought I'd post from the CUPS forum for benefit of others experiencing the same issue: Brian, Perfect. The description of the problem in the link you sent is exactly what I was experi...

Re: Could not connect to network CUPS server

I am having a similar problem with CUPS. I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 with Linux Mint Debian. I have an old Laserjet 4M Plus which I have been able to configure previously using its Jetdirect card with Linux Mint 13 (on another computer). Can't seem to get there in Debian for some reason. Trying to c...

Re: Is it common when updating cannot access sites?

Thanks for the link, zero zero. I definitely couldn't glean any solution from there (hope I wasn't supposed to). So this is a problem that will resolve itself when the repository gets straightened out an isn't anything I can solve on this end?

Thanks, as usual, for your help.

Re: Is it common when updating cannot access sites?

This is not a reply, but an additional problem report. All of the sudden my Mint 13 Maya won't update. I'll probably keep trying for a couple of days. Seems like it is some kind of system problem because I have Mint Debian on another computer and its doing the same thing. Is this something that will...

Re: need explanation of Mint Debian behavior during Terminal

Hey zerozero, Well, I'm writing this from LM Debian booted from the usb drive. I managed to screw up the edition on the hard disk such that it won't load the video driver. It will open the terminal. I loaded a package that was listed as having the driver for the video card and loaded 'nvidia-xconfig...

Re: need explanation of Mint Debian behavior during Terminal

Hmm... Trying to get Nvidia drivers to load and configure automatically. Some difficulty starting LM Debian. Have to scroll around in the initial configuration screens at start to go to what I suppose is an earlier configuration or I don't seem to have a video driver loaded. Right now I have: perry@...

Re: need explanation of Mint Debian behavior during Terminal

Gee, that's great. So if Cinnamon runs on anything why not on my old laptop? This isn't really a big issue for me as I am content with the Mate desktop version. I am composing this on the Mint 13 Mate edition on the other laptop which is also just peachy. Thanks for you comments, zerozero. I'll look...

Re: need explanation of Mint Debian behavior during Terminal

A new edition of LM Debian is a great idea. Hope it happens soon. I just downloaded and installed. What an ordeal. 1300 some odd updates which were updates on updates so had to be monitored (and couldn't run unattended to finish). The 10 minute install went to 5 hours! This distribution might be the...

Re: No way to make HP LaserJet 1020 (usb) working

Finally got the LaserJet 4M Plus to print as a network printer through a JetDirect card. I'd label this post "solved" but the USB/parallel problem never was solved. I still see that problem as one that should be addressed. There is no fix. Tried all the stuff on forums. No joy. I wouldn't ...

Re: No way to make HP LaserJet 1020 (usb) working

Well, I've spent a lot of time with Ubuntu debugging, the CUPS site, Hp linux, to no avail. The system in Windows Vista sets up a virtual USB port to connect to in order to get the LaserJet 4 MP (designed to run on a parallel port) to connect with a USB cable. I am still using the Parallel-USB adapt...

Re: No way to make HP LaserJet 1020 (usb) working

Other detail:

The cable we are using now is parallel on one end and USB on the other. It has worked fine with 7, Vista and XP. I guess since I am new to this I just don't understand why this isn't a simple problem.

Love LINUX Mint, so I'll keep working the problem.

Re: No way to make HP LaserJet 1020 (usb) working

Thanks for your suggestions... I'll find time to work with them soon. The printer works on parallel OK. Problem is to switch it to work on USB. Then I wouldn't be switching cables. Other solution (crude, but effective) is to get a parallel manual switch. Great old printer and we use it all the time....

Re: No way to make HP LaserJet 1020 (usb) working

Double Hmmm... Just got back form the HPLIP website and found that Laserjet 4MP driver from them isn't supported for USB connection, only parallel. Anyone know how to get it to work on USB??? I'm not real interested in switching cables every time I want to print with LINUX Mint. I am a computer user...

Re: No way to make HP LaserJet 1020 (usb) working

Hmmm... I have the same problem as pico77. Is there a solution? I'm new to LINUX Mint 13 and this is my first posting. Unsatisfactory results using hplip. hplip doesn't see the printer as connected. Wonderful program otherwise, but if I can't print anything, I'll bail... too much grief. The printer ...
