Re: omg... home run on linux mint 17.1 Cinnamon

Cinnamon has inferior performance compared to any other graphic environment, moreover it has more bugs (prepare for memory leak sooner or later). It's a new GE and therefore way more prone to bugs and issues. If you are going to play games or do any other demanding tasks on your computer and are co...

Re: omg... home run on linux mint 17.1 Cinnamon

Cinnamon has inferior performance compared to any other graphic environment, moreover it has more bugs (prepare for memory leak sooner or later). This should be solved now with Cinnamon 2.4: http://www.linuxmint.com/rel_rebecca_cinnamon_whatsnew.php#cinnamon yep... this is what i was talking about....

Re: LM-17 Cinnamon is not good for gamers.

Cinnamon has inferior performance compared to any other GE. may be true in the past, but with mint 17.1 cinnamon (2.4?) I have had the fastest, smoothest gaming... and i have tried kde, gnome, unity, xfce, xfce with kwin, mate, mate with kwin, openbox. There are couple of others, but i cannot remem...

bug that was in Ubuntu 14.10 in nfs has bit me in LM 17.1

With the update that happened sometime in the last week, my nfs mounts will no longer automount upon reboot. The exact symptoms as the 14.10. I am not sure what i updated that killed it, but wanted to raise a flag about it. For now, the workaround i was using for 14.10 seems to be working. I add to ...

omg... home run on linux mint 17.1 Cinnamon

I havent been impressed with Cinnamon. I normally run kubuntu, mint kde or mate, etc. After reading some reviews, I decided to install 17.1 Cinnamon and try it out for gaming. It is by far the best performing distro for gaming. Everything is butter smooth. I have tried maybe 20 different distros in ...

Re: [SOLVED]Screen tearing

My fix only applies to kwin/kde. You also have to change rendering to raster and opengl to 3.1(2.0 may be fine). I do not have any tearing at all. The xorg.conf fix didnt work for me. Also, something weird was I had to uncheck suspend desktop effects for fullscreen. Oddly, with my fix, games ran fa...

Re: [SOLVED]Screen tearing

I am not certain this issue is solved. Not sure how many of you guys/gals are gamers but the problem is gone and the vidoe someone posted shows that I have no tearing. Now when I play a games like L4D 2, Serious Sam 3 or even CUBE 2 - the moment a lot of action takes place - the visual tearing retu...

Re: [SOLVED]Screen tearing

I thought i would post my solution for kde to see if it helps anyone: i did not alter my xorg.conf except to turn off power mizer. what i did though was add these lines to /etc/environment CLUTTER_PAINT=disable-clipped-redraws:disable-culling CLUTTER_VBLANK=True KWIN_TRIPLE_BUFFER=1 The last line i...

Re: Games on linux

Hi all! I have a question involving some of the main desktop envrionments, and games. So from my experince I'v noticed that games work better in some DEs than others, and some will work fine in a few, but lagg more in one. So from what I have experinced here is the rank of desktop envrioments, with...

Re: nested menu

"Gnome 2 has it, Mate has it, KDE has it, xfce. But all the new menus do not." Can you please provide me a picture of this menu that you are talking about, where i can see all the submenu? Maybe if i see this, you can convince me... I can make a menu like this in cinnamon, if i think that could hel...

Re: nested menu

On Linux in general, there are categories for applications, not the same disorder that we can find on windows... So, you always can return to windows if you want... I don't know how you can see a problem here. I think it's a matter of taste and habits. Excuse me? Who said this was windows i was tal...

nested menu

Why does it seem that noone wants nested menus anymore? I wont use cinnamon for that exact reason. I have crossover and wine set up, and when you install into cinnamon, you get a flat menu with 50 uninstall entries and so on. I am all for new ways of doing menus, but please throw us a bone every onc...

Re: Greeter application appears to be crashing

i figured it out... there is a patch that is killing mdm. I reinstalled mdm from synaptic and everything is working again. I bet if you look in system admin in the menu, you will not see login window applet anymore. Reinstalling mdm fixes it... however i cannot figure out what is nuking mdm.
