Re: Blu-ray/CD drive not detected

Have you checked that the SATA cable for the drive is firmly connected to the drive and the motherboard? Have you tried putting the SATA cable into another SATA port on the motherboard? Do you have another SATA cable available that you can use, to rule out the possibility of a bad cable? Heck, even ...

Re: Hard drive merge partitions

All right, no ability to backup makes things a little more risky, but it can still be done. Provided that partitions 4 and 7 are neither your / or /home partitions. With gparted on your Mint install, unmount partitions 4 and 7. In the 140GB free space, create a new partition that is larger than part...

Re: VirtualBox won't load LMDE6

Awesome! If they had a thumbs up emoji, I'd insert it here. Now make a clone of it with vb, then if something happens to break it, you'll have one to fall back on, instead of having to rebuild a whole new vm. Highlight your LMDE6 vm, click Machine at the top of the VB window, click on Clone. Learn f...

Re: VirtualBox won't load LMDE6

Once you finish the install and remove the lmde6 iso from the optical drive, you should be able to boot into your new LMDE6 vm, then click on Devices at the top, and insert the Guest Additions cd image. Once that's installed, all should then play nice, and you can download the latest updates and be ...

Re: VirtualBox won't load LMDE6

Just tinkered, and given your picture, you're running off of the live .iso, and not an installed system. Running off the iso, you can't run the guest additions image because the optical drive already has the lmde6 iso loaded. Instance of two items trying to occupy the same space, it ain't happenin'....

Re: VirtualBox won't load LMDE6

It's not downloaded. In the VM window at the top, click on Devices, you should see Insert Guest Additions CD Image. Click on that, and it will download and install from there. ETA: Just noticed that your picture shows that you're running off of the live dvd/usb, and not on an installed system. You h...

Re: VirtualBox won't load LMDE6

If I clicked on Storage in the VB settings, checked the Live CD/DVD box, but didn't load an iso, I got the same error message that you did. You are clicking on the cd icon to the right of Optical Drive, and Choose a Disk File, locating and choosing the iso. and then clicking the Live CD/DVD box, bef...

Re: Converting from an MBR to GPT drive keeping data

I just did it last night, using the instructions here; https://www.ubuntubuzz.com/2023/05/safely-convert-hard-disk-to-gpt-without-data-loss.html I dual boot LMDE5 and LM21 off the same NVMe drive, and it worked just fine. I will admit though, there was a few minutes of pucker factor involved. :mrgre...

Simple Scan + Canon DR-C225 = black page

The Canon DR-C225 that I have used to work with LMDE3. My memory isn't what it used to be, and I suspect that I had to do some tinkering back then as well to get it to work. It will work in LMDE4, but only after I do a scan with xsane. If I try to use Simple Scan first, I get a black page. The scann...

Re: Simple Scan - Way to add new DPI value?

I installed all four mainstream scan utilities recently, is it possible to add a custom DPI value such as 400 DPI in any of them? xsane you can change to 400dpi Preferences -> check "Edit Medium Definition -> halfway down box, you'll see default of 300, click dropdown arrow, and you can change...

now wait, when i checked the Gigybyte website for my mobo driver, i found the USB3.0 drivers are Etron built! Does that mean the Etron USB3.0 is mobo sided, not from third party PCIe card for additional USB3.0? im totally lost.. https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-Z68AP-D3-rev-10/support#...

Re: How many are 100% Linux here?

I'm about 98%. I still need Windows in a virtual machine since my charting software doesn't offer a Linux version. I also need Windows for my two scanners. I can use them in Linux, but the software doesn't provide all of the features that are present in the Windows software version. It's easier and ...

I always say you can never have too many good backups. Isn't that the truth! A couple of recent images is always good to have as well. To paraphrase from the Johnny Dangerously movie, [Danny Vermin] I lost my data once.......ONCE! [/Danny Vermin] My latest cringe worthy moment was when I ins...

Re: Voice to digital converter

IOW, it's an audio recorder. Yes, Mint offers several recorders, with audacity probably already installed and in your menus. Flemur, it's not a simple audio recorder. Dragon is a speech recognition program that converts audio to digital text. Many hospital staff use it when working on patient notes...

Re: Cloning system drive - is it worth it?

As a play on the term handy-dandy, call it the AndyDandyImage. Especially since the definition of handy-dandy is convenient and useful. As to the OP, making a system image is always worth it. All it takes is one major bork, and you'll quickly find out how much easier life is, having that i...

Re: When did you come to Linux?

I started taking Linux for a test drive back in 2008, starting with PCLinuxOS, and Mepis. I came across Linux Mint Daryna, and I've been stuck here ever since. Moved to LMDE when it came out in 2010, and it's continued to be my primary desktop since then. Re: Problem upgrading Kernel in LMDE 3

As gm10 pointed out, you only mention installing the linux-header files.

If not already done, you still need to install the actual kernel file linux-image-4.19.0-0.bpo.4-amd64. Once you install that and update grub, you should see the new kernel listed.

Re: GParted merge unallocated space to other partition

Edit: Oops, just noticed that you have ntfs on a primary partition, and / in the extended partition. As mentioned before you'll need to use gparted from a live dvd/usb, since your Linux build lives within the the extended partition and things need to be unmounted in order to make the change. ------ ...

Re: Phatch - broken in 19.

Odd ? I go to "Software Manager", enter "phatch" and it comes up (with a green tick, as I have it installed). Did you do a clean install of 19, or upgrade from 18 and had installed it when you were running that? Phatch is not listed in Ubuntu's bionic beaver packages. Thankfully...
