Re: Cannot set brightness

Chazzers, are you sure there's nothing in the "Brightness and Lock" area. In mine there's what looks like a green line immediately beneath the word "Brightness," and it's a slider. Below is a pic with the slider button moved to the left a bit. Screenshot of Bright.png I'm afraid ...

Re: No Nvidia control panel?

Albert, thanks for the tip about Bumblebee. Since I'm sort of in the same boat as Simon, (apparently I too have an Optimus laptop), I've looked at the site you link and I have to say that it is less than novice friendly --- which I infer Simon might be. Looking at the Bumblebee link through a normal...

Re: No Nvidia control panel?

Simon, According to the Linux Mint 14 release notes, Jockey used to be in the menus, but it seems it was removed upstream in Ubuntu, and was discontinued: Additional drivers To install additional drivers, please run the "Software Sources" tool from "Menu->Preferences->Software Sources...

Edge flip faster?

I'm glad to have the ability to flip between workspaces by edgeflipping. This has been a primary point of my love of xfce since the death of Gnome. Alas, the default setting in Cinnamon is a bit antithetical moving quickly between workspaces. I can understand a slow default so people not used to it ...

[SOLVED] Github for Suggestions?

I'm interested in offering some Cinnamon suggestions, and, while I'm willing to join github to do so, must it be necessary to do so? (After all, aren't the suggestions of simple users here, on the forums, valid and heard? ) Anyway, could I get some pointers from anyone about how to make the followin...

Re: Getting my BCM43227 Working in Cinnamon

Ahhhh, I see what you're saying. Its a bit buried, but the path is Menu > System Tools > System Settings > System > Software Sources And LO! There it is Broadcom Corporation's driver. It appears to be the sort of thing that used to automatically come up to announce this or that driver could be used....

Re: Getting my BCM43227 Working in Cinnamon

Albert, yes, absolutely. Unfortunately I'll have to wait to use my parents (only) ethernet cable to get online in linux, so it will be within the hour, I expect. (I'm helping my dad scan his mal-ware ridden Windows box.) I'm using my Win7 partition to get on the wireless at the moment ... actually, ...

Re: Getting my BCM43227 Working in Cinnamon

I suppose I could just dump Nadia and go back to xfce 13 --- since that worked until I borked it following an incomplete tut about installing NVidia drivers found elsewhere on this forum.

So, no one has any advice on fixing this?

<SOLVED> Getting my BCM43227 Working in Cinnamon

I've installed Cinnamon 14 today. When I had switched from LMDE 13 to the main XFCE 13 edition, I used the advice I had gotten here http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=194&t=111716&p=624711#p624711 and it worked. However, trying to do the same today failed for me. All seemed to go we...

Re: Broke my sound output,

Lotta lookers, no takers? S'cool. I tried a couple of random re-installs of pulse audio ... but I think it was beyond that. Something was installed in order to use the wireless portal at work (NoScript said ABE was blocking it's install till I said let it go.) This sound problem began shortly after ...

Re: Broke my sound output,

I've looked around, but haven't found anything similar (was working, not now working). It did work fine with an old Linux Mint Live Julia CD I had, so I don't think it's the hardware dying suddenly. I do wonder about the .pulse directory in /home ... could one of the items in there with names like &...

Broke my sound output,

I've had no problem with sound until today, sadly whilst showing off linux on my machine to a co-worker. I work in a hotel and, as people would come and go, I had to keep muting video files played both on firefox (youtube) and with vlc, muted variously at both locations and also at the "mixer&q...

Re: How do I load the drivers for BCM43227?

Thank you! Vincent and zerozero, et al. LMDE XFCE is now installed (without a hitch, mind you) and the Debian site directions worked flawlessly. I followed them, restarted my computer and voila! My wireless network was detected! And listen, I know that the likes of Vincent and zerozero and others he...

Re: How do I load the drivers for BCM43227?

BTW, inxi is saying you are running LMDE Xfce and not LMDE LXDE. Thanks Vincent, both for the thread move and for pointing out to me my mis-typing LMDE. Yeah, I got sort of mixed up while typing L-M-D-E. I often have to re-type that acronym, I don't know why it's so hard for me to get straight. I'v...

Re: i5 multicore & lmde

The LMDE live dvds all worked on the new machine that I brought home just fine. So, that's a relief. Everything seems to work well. None of these recognize that there is even a wireless card in the computer, it seems, as none is ever listed. Here's the output from inxi -Fx on this Acer Aspire 5750-6...

Re: i5 multicore & lmde

Vincent, Thanks for the prompt response! I got back from buying the computer, posted there, went to dinner and a movie with my wife, and just got back. I haven't had time to unpack and fire up the new computer --- that's tomorrow night's project, after work. I'm sorry that I was vague on the problem...

<SOLVED> How do I load the drivers for BCM43227?

If this would be better posted on "LMDE" or "Installation," please move it. But I feel stupid asking it, so I thought here would be right. I've just gotten back from purchasing an Acer Aspire with an i5 core and 6GB Ram. Yay for me. I tested a Linux Mint Maya Cinnamon Live CD and...
