Re: Linux Mint 17.x reaches end of life in April

UEFI is an open standard, I doubt anybody has any side-deals, that doesn't appear plausible. But LM 19.1 supports installing with secure boot enabled so just give it a try. :) I did so and I'm pleased to say that, so far, all has gone well. It works! :D My brief dalliance with Opensuse was interest...

Re: Linux Mint 17.x reaches end of life in April

Mint 17.3 is by FAR Mint's very best release ever. Everything just works! And with a LOW memory footprint. Once everyone jumped on the bandwagon and went to GTK3 and Sysyemd, things went downhill with 18.x and 19.x. The Distrowatch hits over the past 2 years confirm this. Everything became more slu...

Re: Linux Mint 17.x reaches end of life in April

I thought I HAD done a clean installation of 19.1. I'll try again soon.

What about the UEFI issues? I've been seeing an absence of Windows 10 in the Mint install even though Windows is on the machine. Is this going to be an issue with 19.1?

Re: Linux Mint 17.x reaches end of life in April

Version 17.3 was/is the best distribution I've used. When I tried out the 18s and 19s, I had annoying issues of being unceremoniously logged out to MDM whenever I mounted or simply opened a partition/drive or certain files. This NEVER occurred with 17.3. I'm rather frustrated and disappointed with t...

Re: Unceremoniously kicked out to login screen

My experience with Linux has for the most part been positive even when encountering issues like the one(s) I've presented here. I've had enough of them to realize that with a little persistence, faith in Linux and positive thinking, that things work out, often in ways that are unexpected.

Re: Unceremoniously kicked out to login screen

In response to MrGrimm: Careful with the libel there, bud. Don't go jumping the gun. Regarding the issue of mounting, the issue wasn't mounting per se. It was the unwanted consequences of mounting that gave me grief and frustration; i.e., pushing me to the login screen every time. Perhaps it was my ...

Re: Unceremoniously kicked out to login screen

Hello again. I had a hunch to do another fresh install but with Ubuntu Mate (very traitorous of me I know!!) and ended up with an even worse situation than with Mint 19 Mate in terms of being kicked off to the login screen. In my desperation and frustration, I tried the Mint 17.3 I was usi...

Unceremoniously kicked out to login screen

Greetings. Not sure where to post this, so here might be the best. Today, I did a fresh install of Mint 19 (Tara) Mate onto a couple of partitions of an SSD drive. It successfully installed... ostensibly. HOWEVER, whenever I mount a drive or attempt to open something on a mounted drive, I get booted...

HELLO

Hello. Since this is where we introduce ourselves, then let me introduce myself: Geeky, nerdy, Linux-loving and open source-loving Australian male, 44, single and available!! But that's not relevant here.... Actually - and most importantly - I'm one of the many Ubuntu/Unity refugees and now a relati...
