[SOLVED] Can't add anything to the panel - 19.1

After months of using 18.3, I finally decided to try 19.1 bc another forum user told me 19.1 no longer installs microcodes. And... I'm a bit disappointed: I can't add any program from the menu to the panel. In 18.3 if I wanted to add Firefox to the panel, it was enough to right click its icon in the...

Does Mint 18.3 contain drivers for IBM InfoPrint 1410?

I installed Windows 7 on a friend of mine's laptop but that laptop is very old (HP with a single core AMD CPU which means that laptop is literally ancient) and it gives all kinds of errors plus we can't find Windows 7 drivers for printer IBM InfoPrint 1410, so I'm thinking to install Mint 18.3 for h...

Idk what M.2 is but I have an SSD (Corsair Force LE 120GB) and Linux (Mint 18.3) works like a charm on it.

Removing VLC without removing mint-meta-codecs?

I wanna get rid of VLC cuz I don't use it (in fact I hate it) but when I try to uninstall it, Synaptic says it's gonna remove the multimedia codecs along with it. So, is there any way I can get rid of VLC without losing the codecs?

Re: [SOLVED] New user worried about Microsoft

I wonder the same thing as Schultz. I'm far from advanced user and I still manage quite fine with Synaptic. My only "weapon" for that is speaking English and carefully reading the description in the cases I'm not familiar with the package.

Re: New user worried about Microsoft

Personally I think the way Manjaro Xfce add/remove software program does things much better then Synaptic, but is just my humble opinion. The thing about Manjaro (all DEs, no exceptions) I "loved" so much it made me puke and quickly move back to Mint was the constant and unstoppable crashing someth...

Re: Copying a CD/DVD that will Self Destroy within minutes of opening it up

Such things happen only on movies. IRL there's no way to set a DVD to self destruct and it can't detect what program is running. Even if it does have a software for that, simply by turning off autorun in the OS options, nothing will be autoexecuted and you can freely copy only the files you need.

Re: Where can I download 4.13.0-45 kernel?

https://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/linux-image-extra-4.13.0-45-generic That should take you to a site where you can find a download for the image-extra Why so super complicated though? I'd just have added the xenial repo and then changed kernels via Update Manager as always. This thread is really s...

Re: Where can I download 4.13.0-45 kernel?[SOLVED]

I think everyone is very confused. 4.13.0-45 is the current 18.3 kernel Deb files - download and install with gdebi or dpkg -i in this order. These are for AMD64...! https://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial-updates/all/linux-headers-4.13.0-45/download https://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial-updates/amd64/linu...

rado84 - Can you clarify whether this is intended for a 19 install or an 18.3 install?
Mint 19 here. When I used to run 18.3 this kernel had the best performance and fast startup of Mint. The latter is even slower than Windows.

Re: Too fast uploading content on a flash drive

sudo sysctl vm.dirty_bytes=8192000 ### Refuse to cache more than 8MB of new data, until the next boot. That didn't work either. 128 MB/sec upload speed. The integrated tool in Mint 19 offers other file systems (finally) but the result is the same with NTFS: https://www19.zippyshare.com/v/YqiEUQbd/f...

Yup. Which only indicates they don't/can't read or don't understand what I wanna do which is downgrading to an older kernel.

Re: Who no longer trusts or uses Facebook?

I still use it but I'm getting tired of the fascists running Facebook and I don't know when I'll have enough of them. Groups, posts and images with open racism are left intact while things from the daily life are removed and their authors banned for a month, sometimes even longer.

Re: Where can I download 4.13.0-45 kernel?

That version was never released for bionic. You'd have to find and download it manually but I cannot recommend doing that. Then how would you explain that it appeared as an update for the kernel in 18.3? I have a full backup of the entire Linux partition which I can restore in under 2 minutes, so I...

Where can I download 4.13.0-45 kernel?

In the last hour I keep digging through Google but I can't find anywhere exactly this kernel version. I wanna download it and install it. But the closest thing I managed to find was 4.13.0-41300 or something which isn't 0-45. I want 4.13.0-45 because that kernel in particular had somehow fixed the m...
