Re: Swap memory not being used, terminal starts slowly.

I noticed this "slow starting the first time" (about 20 seconds, with two different terminals but not file-browsers) on Manjaro with kernel 4.19.8; then I installed 4.19.8 in ubuntu (18.04) and *it* started with the slow first-launch terminal start. Using kernel 4.15.x in ubuntu (tho I see the OP is...

Re: Swap memory not being used, terminal starts slowly.

Does anynone have any idea how to make my swap useable at any given time, does this cause my terminal taking at least 20 seconds at least I can be able to type any command on it? Normally swap is not used, and with 8G memory you'll rarely use it; the slow terminal is some other problem. To figure t...

Processing file 'holo.ogg' ...
error: no plugin matches the file 'holo.ogg'
I think that means it's not finding the codec.
Can you play the .ogg files with other software?
Is libvorbis0a installed? Mint-meta-codecs?

Re: File extension associations with applications.

I think the second part of that ubuntu "help" might work - IF YOU PUT THE XML FILE IN
/usr/share/mime/packages
and NOT where they said to:
/usr/share/mime/application,
where it will get silently erased (the files there say "automatically generated, don't edit")

Re: Changing passwd root by terminal

I restart PC and the password was not updated. I have to use old password. If you're running 'sudo' and such, you still enter your password. If you su - root enter the new root password. (I just tried it, it works) On a more bare-bones linux this would work, but in Ubuntu/Mint you get login root lo...

Re: File extension associations with applications.

The whole issue seems very confused between trusting a file extension to identify the file type and analyzing the file. "Confused" is exactly right. The mime implementation is a complicated mess. I want it to rely on the extension by preference and only revert to contents analysis if there is no ex...

The message in the thread you linked to is different, "Unable to correct missing packages."
It's the same guy, who can't update because he is running Mint 15.

Re: Firefox won't update

Firefox just will not update. It won't automatically update, it won't manually update. 1 - Do what all41 said. 2 - Rather than say "firefox won't update", provide the actual steps you did which didn't work, and the resulting messages, etc., e.g. "I did sudo apt-get update and got these errors....[e...

Re: Standard user cannot log on

I have just installed Linux Mint 19 Cinnnamon. I have created an admin account with a password. That works fine. But when I create a second standard user, with the Users and Groups GUI, I cannot log on using this account and password. The logon page shows both accounts. But when I enter the passwor...

Lets think that I'm not using it for SD Card. Gparted still doesn't working. Any help with that? That uninformative error message "Unit -.mount does not exist, proceeding anyway." is appareantly a bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/getdeb.net/+bug/1744082 but looking other places (do an internet searc...

Re: LMDE 3 is too slow and heavy?

Even when comparing it to the LM19 Cinnamon with the exact same version of Cinnamon installed, That "even" comparison is the only fair comparison to make if you're comparing Mint 19 w/LMDE, as opposed to comparing Xfce with Cinnamon. the normal LM was significantly better on all three devices. Re: Netflix volume far too low on Firefox

The customer service rep I chatted with tried to tell me the problem was my HDMI cable. Typical pass-the-buck BS. Here the audio is OK on the "Firestick" gizmo, but not on the linux, so I must have that same HDMI cable but without any HDMI. And, FWIW, I run FF without pulseaudio (thru "apulse"), ev...

Re: Firefox and Chromium dont save webpages when I change the title.

FF seems to be able to save some web pages in a format that it can read and display. Saving a page from this forum results in a readable file but with no formatting. Saving a blogspot.com page gave pretty good results that looked correct.
