Sure, that works too. But if the user doesn't know which file to edit, using the GUI is easiest way. ;)
Well, I found the file ("find" and "grep" are your friends) but couldn't find it in the GUI.

Re: VLC - SWF

Flemur, I tried to download Adobe Flashplayer, but have run into all sorts of problems just trying to download it. A message from July 12 of an undefined year says they've been messing with it. https://github.com/GerRudi/SimpleR-RotMG/issues/47 I’m wondering if it is still available as one site thr...

Re: Looking for backup answers.

I have discovered that I can back up my desktop, and the Firefox bookmarks, by just drag and drop to my usb thumb drive, Tried that with Thunderbird and ran into Permissions problems, Backup your entire /home/username, then restore the settings/files you think you need in the new OS. My $HOME is < ...

Re: any simple software to test read/write speed on ssd?

I installed a new SSD on my laptop, and I am sure it's running slower than when it had an old HDD. I just need a non complicated software to read/write and output speeds? I'm on LM Cinnamon now, but the laptop is on LM MATE There are some fancy graphical tools, but time cp big-file to-file is prett...

Re: VLC - SWF

You could try converting the file in VLC with Media > Convert / Save if it's non interactive. See http://www.vip-video-converter.com/articles/how-can-i-convert-swf-to-mp4-using-vlc/ for full instructions. It doesn't work; it created a 199 byte .mp4 file from the 5.3 MB "Hervey Bay" swf file. No mes...

Re: VLC - SWF

I’m not saying I know better than you at all. What I am saying is there are more than one swf files that won’t play on VLC, but will play on Flash Movie Player. I’ve uploaded this one to Dropbox as an example. https://www.dropbox.com/s/seknffsk1icndpd/Hervey%20Bay.swf?dl=0 It’s only shots around a ...

If the worst comes to the worse, is there a way to go back to an earlier version? There are various versions here, with .deb files, which is nice: https://github.com/Motion-Project/motion/releases OR - You could try gksudo synaptic -> find "motion" ; menu -> package -> force version Edit - you also...

Re: wine and bad fonts

Try
winetricks -> default prefix -> settings -> you'll see the font stuff.

Also
winecfg -> graphics -> resolution (I use 112).

Also make sure you have the microsoft fonts installed, package "ttf-mscorefonts-installer".

I am now thinking of installing it on a main system that currently has Win 10 installed. Re: [SOLVED] Cant see my data from windows

Windows can "see" linux filesystems if you install some stuff in windows, e.g.
https://www.howtogeek.com/112888/3-ways ... m-windows/

IIRC, I used Ext2Fsd (Edit: Ext2explore) , and IIRC, it's "read-only". It's still probably better to share an NTFS partition ...

Re: photoshope is not open psd file in wine

I've had those (type of) errors ("a program error") with photoshop under wine - sometimes after it's been running for months. The only cure I found was to make a new wine prefix (~/.wine) But the new wine (v3.0x) photoshop 7 (old version number) and 12 (CS 5 ?) work great and open PSD files. "gimp" ...

Re: Any music producers out there using Linux DAW's????

I've been searching for years for evidence of real, professional music producers using Linux. I've never been able to find any. PhD21's links pretty much confirm that. Having messed with "jack" and the linux DAWs, I'd never use linux for anything more complicated than converting a file format. I do...

Re: Can not write to CD/DVD

Try running

Code: Select all

xfburn
from a terminal, try writing to a write-able CD/DVD, and post the terminal output here.
You might have to install it:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install xfburn
It's light and won't include a lot of junk or mess up your system.
