Re: Installing Wine - can't enable 32-bit packages error

That error can be the result of a typo, e.g. you entered 'l386' rather than i386.
Try this -

Code: Select all

dpkg --print-foreign-architectures

Get yo your /home with cd ~ and sudo rm -r /media/usbdrive
Naturally check to make sure nothing is mounted to it
Would it be safer to

Code: Select all

rmdir /media/usbdrive
because that fails if the directory (mountpoint) isn't empty...?

Re: Can't get rid of 10 seconds Grub countdown

I will admit that's pretty True (in the Manowar, Warriors of True Metal sense, that is) but not sure I could stand getting intimate enough with the piece of shit to do so... Yeah, figuring out which 5% of the grub.cfg file was useful was the tricky part. FWIW, here's my ... # grub.cfg # default=0 #...

Another vote for (g)rsync. For one thing, if you have any problems (power goes out, whatever) it can keep track of what's already been copied.

Thank you for the reply. And, should I know what information I needed to supply when asking in a Help forum and I get "we need to know more information?" Yes, you should. Because right above your post it says, with a link: Forum rules Before you post please read how to get help and you didn't do wh...

Re: 19.1 slow to start

Is there something I can do to speed Mint up? Probably. I am a programmer and rebooting is something that can need to happen many times a day. {gasp!} :) Then you should know that you need to supply information about your problem; could you fix your software if someone said "it's too slow", with no...

Re: Can't get rid of 10 seconds Grub countdown

That ridiculous "hah, you may say you want a 0 second timeout but I know better!" nonsense was almost enough to cause me to immediately leave Mint again back when I was new. I edit grub.cfg by hand so as to avoid using grub software as much as possible. I think it's funny that "their" grub.cfg file...

but I'm booting manjaro just fine from mint or ubuntu.

Try re-sizing the image so it's the same size as your monitor resolution.

I'm a contraction of a typo.
Awww, come on now....

You can't just lay that out there without an explanation that I hope it is up to the level I would expect from a Potemkin Villager sporting a Bob's head.

Re: Displaying 100+ security cameras simultaneously

- Don't use Cinnamon; it takes a lot of overhead, apparently including the video (needs proprietary video driver to run properly).
- In any case, make sure you have the proper video drivers installed.
- Video - my not-very-informed impression is that nvidia works better than others in linux.

Chances are that the kernel 4.19.0-8.1-liquorix-amd64 is the one that causes the problem.
The 4.19 kernel acts funny (but not freezing) on my Ubuntu and Manjaro (where's it the default) installs, so I stopped using it.

Re: Swap memory not being used, terminal starts slowly.

I noticed this "slow starting the first time" (about 20 seconds, with two different terminals but not file-browsers) on Manjaro with kernel 4.19.8; then I installed 4.19.8 in ubuntu (18.04) and *it* started with the slow first-launch terminal start. Using kernel 4.15.x in ubuntu (tho I see the OP is...

Re: Swap memory not being used, terminal starts slowly.

Does anynone have any idea how to make my swap useable at any given time, does this cause my terminal taking at least 20 seconds at least I can be able to type any command on it? Normally swap is not used, and with 8G memory you'll rarely use it; the slow terminal is some other problem. To figure t...

Processing file 'holo.ogg' ...

I think that means it's not finding the codec.
Can you play the .ogg files with other software?
Is libvorbis0a installed? Mint-meta-codecs?
