Virtualbox - no audio - selection greyed out.

Mint 18.3 Xfce host, win7 as a virtualbox guest. I've removed pulseaudio (as always). I can't set the audio in virtualbox because the GUI is greyed-out; the "Intel HD Audio" listed (but grey) is the wrong device (built-in audio which is disabled in BIOS - ?), it should be an old SoundBlast...

SOLVED Which font file is "monospace regular" and "monospace bold"?

Answer: "monospace regular" is not set to a given font, its a sort of placeholder for to say "monospace" without defining which font is used. Hi - When presenting a list of fonts, (for use in their GUIs) both "xfce4-terminal" and "synaptic" list fonts called &...

There are also > 500 files in

Code: Select all

/usr/share/fonts/X11

Why so many?

And > 100 more files in

Code: Select all

/usr/share/fonts/type1

which are not ttf fonts.

Re: Anybody tried out the new GIMP 2.9 unstable?

I am not sure you did. I think you installed the flatpak for GIMP stable. I think you're right...but downloading 300MB of ??? and 40MB of nvidia...???!?!?! 800MB of junk left afterwards?!?!? But then I also wish developers would provide useful documentation, bloggers would put a DATE on their blath...

Re: Anybody tried out the new GIMP 2.9 unstable?

Thanks for this. Confusing is the word. Time to backoff and foogetaboutit gimp 2.9.9 installed OK with this normal "add a PPA" procedure (which isn't mentioned at the gimp website): http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2017/01/install-latest-gimp-2-9-x-development-build-ubuntu It ran fine, I though...

Re: Anybody tried out the new GIMP 2.9 unstable?

And flatpak really sucks! And "freedesktop" is why: https://flatpak.org/#about --> flatpak@lists.freedesktop.org They sure crank out a lot of garbage. # pwd /var/lib/flatpak/app/org.gimp.GIMP/x86_64/stable/7bda4b1cadf3d096f849e34f18c5934fa2e6dbe97b3269cabc2176e96e2a25fb # ls -l total 16 -...

Re: Anybody tried out the new GIMP 2.9 unstable?

I tried installing it - after downloading about 300MB of STUFF, including 40MB of nvidia for some reason, I can't tell that it's installed. https://www.gimp.org/downloads/ to get 2.9.6 (?) # flatpak install org.gimp.GIMP.flatpakref This application depends on runtimes from: https://flathub.org/repo/...

Re: Handbrake tips and tricks?

Turns out handbrake needed a whole bunch of extra packages (reinstall with "recommends") - though it did NOT complain about anything in a terminal - but now it's sort-of working, although the preview just shows still images and some other glitches. IMHO Linux doesn't have any good video so...

Ack - I just (re)installed handbrake after going M18.2 -> 18.3 and I can't get it to do anything. With one of those WalMat reject $1 DVDs of the old Andy Griffith show It says "Scanning 1-5 titles" then nothing at all...can't do anything, no preview, most stuff is greyed out. But see if Ha...

Re: Handbrake tips and tricks?

I've searched and watched tutorials, but I can't find an answer as of yet: Arrrgh! They'd all die if they spent a couple of hours documenting their software! Is there a command for taking all the individual chapters and converting them into a single MP4 file while converting/ripping? At the moment,...

Re: Used space on ssd growing every day about 200MB

It look like *something* keeps downloading some flatpak/nvidia stuff (or error messages).

How did you install the nvidia driver? I'm using nvidia 304 and /var/lib/flatpak is 5.7M and no nvidia stuff at all.

I deleted the folder .cinnamon/spices.cache/desklet while the Desklets dialogue was closed.

That probably would've contained the .config (tho perhaps under a different name - .xml, etc) file I was talking about.
