Re: Vim only works via terminal

Try something like this:

Code: Select all

xfce4-terminal --command="vim $1"
I called the one-line script "Vim" and then thunar -> "open [text file] with Vim" worked.

Re: Permanently raise my mouse pointer speed above 100

Is there something I can change which permanently sets the mouse speed to 250? If you don't get a better answer, check out "xset": at the least, you can set up a simple (one-line) mouse-speed script to run when you login. http://linuxreviews.org/howtos/xfree/mouse_speed_in_x/ https://wiki.archlinux...

Re: Slow boot after logging in, and so on

You very probably don't need this one unless you connect to the internet in a strange way: 8.273s NetworkManager-wait-online.service sudo systemctl disable NetworkManager-wait-online.service You also have the "everything takes far longer - 10 to 20X longer - to start than it should w/Cinnamon" syndr...

Re: Model Railroader Noob to Linux

I downloaded the version of XTRACKCAD that you recommended and located with Package Manager, and BOOM! Up and running! That's great! It also might be a bit unusual for non-standard, non-repository software. Here's a repository: http://packages.linuxmint.com/ Click aruond on some stuff and you'll ge...

Re: Why is Bleachbit removing 700 MB on Mint 19?

Hi, As a newbie I was wondering if I could ask a question about Bleachbit in relation to Tara Mint 19. I have used it on Mint 17.1 on a regular basis and the average disk space retrieved was about 25 to 35MB. But since using Tara the disk space showing now is upwards of 700Mb. Which seems a lot to ...

I just ordered the Panda, tired of screwing around with the Edimax. Just wish that Mint or Ubuntu had not made the change that rendered so many wifi dongles ineffective. Oh well.
IIRC, Panda suppled a miniature CD with some software on it - don't mess with it! No need.

Re: Wireless dongle to replace Edimax

I had an Edimax and messed around with the 8192cu stuff, which worked, but....I replaced it with
Panda Wireless PAU06 300Mbps N USB Adapter, about $15
NO more fiddling!

Re: Need Partition Help

How do I merge the sda1 partition with the unallocated space as shown below? I have tried the Live CD and a Gparted CD with no success. Thanks. From LiveMedia, using gparted I would delete all the partitions except sda1; then you can just extend it into the free space you just created, but leave ro...

Re: Model Railroader Noob to Linux

My first Linux software installation! I ended up figuring out how to use Package Manager. Now, let's see if the software works! Yup, it's in the repositories! I should've suggested that you check there before messing with that install script. Edit: Cannot mkdir: Permission denied. Just FYI, that wa...

I get those messages after every wine update, but never install either one.
Turns out I had installed "mono" - don't recall what program(s) requires it - but have never installed gecko; @377Ohms, I don't want/need anything in wine to render html.

Re: Model Railroader Noob to Linux

I have no idea at all what you're telling me to do, nor how to do it. Oh. - Download the 32 or 64 bit .sh file that matches your 32 or 64 bit system. - It should end up in $HOME/Downloads (or "Download"?) - Open a terminal, type cd Downloads sh xtrkcad-setup-5.1.1-1.x86_64.sh (Or sh xtr*.sh the "*"...

Re: Model Railroader Noob to Linux

I would download
http://www.xtrkcad.org/Wikka/CurrentRelease
"self-extracting install script (32 Bit)"
or, more likely,
"self-extracting install script (64 Bit)"
and then run it - first as NOT root/sudo:

Code: Select all

sh xtrkcad-setup-5.1.1-1.x86_64.sh

If you're trying to watch Netflix on your computer, you don't need to do that stuff; you can watch it w/o wine and thru firefox or chrome.

Is that what you want to do?

Common usage in England. Although by "half nine" we mean "half past nine" whereas in Germany that would mean "half to nine". :) I saw that from the Irish girlfriend on "Boardwalk Empire" ... "half three" = 3:30. So I started saying stuff like "two-thirds three" for 3:40 or "one-sixth three" for 3:1...

I hate having to watch a video. You don't have to. They say: Get on your desktop or cell phone and go to myaccount.google.com. Thanks for your reply, but I can't see how it explains why a standard Mint form doesn't do what it say's on the button.
Apparently it's been a bug for about 10 years.
