Re: synaptic terminal ignores font settting; also set background? [SOLVED]

Solution to bad font (not monospace) in synaptic terminal: When "monospace" font (alias) is not set, "fc-match" returns a bogus value (Ubuntu font, IIRC) which makes it look like monospace is set. But then synaptic uses some weird non-monospace font and the characters overlap each other. I defined "...

And sudo cp -R /media/tom/9983149b-3a05-462b-96a6-939625e6c7b6/tom /home/tom/ should be sudo cp -R /media/tom/9983149b-3a05-462b-96a6-939625e6c7b6/tom /home/. or you'll end up with /home/tom/tom Yes master I see the error of my ways. And the archive manager gui is also not helping. Any help on how to unzip these files?
Try just unzipping "example.zip" and don't 'cat' anything.

Re: [SOLVED] Root and system applications don't respect font settings

I recently discovered - with lubuntu at least - that I needed to run the "appearance" settings as (whoami=) root to get the icons and fonts to show up correctly on synaptic.

Re: Move home from one drive to another

What is the procedure for copying home on an external drive to another drive? I know I can use the cp -R command to do it. Are there any preliminary actions I need to do before running the command? I tried: sudo cp -R /media/tom/9983149b-3a05-462b-96a6-939625e6c7b6/tom /home/tom/ cp: cannot stat '/...

You must have skipped chemistry in school.
I would have preferred to skip chemistry, but "They" made me take some on the way to a masters in physics.

But in any case, it would be nice if moles were cuter.

Kilogram, ampere, kelvin and mole redefined

A mole used to be a small burrowing insectivorous mammal with dark velvety fur, a long muzzle, and very small eyes. It's hard to improve on that, but maybe they redefined it with bigger eyes so it'd look cuter. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/11/181116115556.htm The new definitions impact...

Re: Root is full

Yes, quite right, these last commands are very close to me finding out where the space is being used. Is there a shortcut command so I do not have to right click on every folder to check its size, in multiple top-level folders? Eg, I would like to know the largest files and subdirectories under "/"...

Re: Cant unzip music files from downloads to music

I had downloaded .zip mixtapes that needed to be unzipped so I could listen to them, I tried different codes I found on the internet and none seemed to work. I was using the codes on the terminal. Did you try in a terminal unzip file.zip Did you try in a file browser: double-click on the zip file, ...

I installed it however I can't find how to modify it for my system. Everything in the GUI is tiny!
Do you have
foobar.menu -> File -> Preferences -> Display -> Default User interface -> Colors and fonts.

From the output of "df -h" I posted above, my data partition, which is basically the entire HD, is for some reason mounted on /media/me/data, which I think is mounted under root. Which was exactly my question, I don't understand the linux naming conventions. But since /media/me/data is on sda, and ...

Since there's no answer here and this was the first hit on Google for the problem: I solved it by removing the Google search provider from: about:preferences#search The re-adding it from: https://www.linuxmint.com/searchengines.php That "client=firefox" stuff has been bugging me (it gets stuck into...

You need to insert the CD (it's really a DVD, I hope), then reboot the computer, then select the DVD to boot from when the computer starts again. Here's how to tell a Dell to boot from a CD/DVD rather than the regular disk: https://www.dell.com/community/Desktops-General-Read-Only/How-do-I-change-th...

See if you can fix that one with

It doesn't show your password or provide any useful feedback, so people often think something is broken. It's probably n...

Copy/paste what JeremyB typed, don't do the string replacements yourself.
IOW, enter this:
