Re: confused over Terminal use

You might need to mount it (before you can "cd" to it) - just double-click on the likely-looking name under "Places", or with your file browser under Places or Devices (or rt-click->menu); here's what my USB partitions look like:
mount_usb.jpg
mount_usb.jpg (15.89 KiB) Viewed 13 times
But the "sudo blkid" should show it before it's mounted.

Re: Firefox problem after updating

Are you sure it is your OS and not your browser only? Yup. I don't have LibreOffice installed; I downloaded the file and it opens with file-roller, no other suggestions. I do not have to tell my OS, hm, rather my graphical file-manager, The file manager is using the system-wide mime associations pr...

Re: Firefox problem after updating

I've managed to open Firefox from the Terminal & have attached the output as suggested.Errors.odt My OS wants to open that file with "file-roller" and shows me a list of files rather than error messages. The proper way to show the output is to copy it from the terminal, paste the text here and encl...

Re: Firefox problem after updating

going from Firefox 58.0.2 to 60.0.1 My FF v60 ESR had a screwed-up password manager (would either do nothing, or put the password in the 'username' box) and it also seemed to cause "video downloadhelper" to download videos from a background tab, but using the file names from the foreground tab. I f...

Re: Scaling of QT, JFX and wine on HDPI system

https://www.addictivetips.com/ubuntu-linux-tips/enable-hidpi-scaling-on-linux/ Those looking to use a HiDPi display with the Cinnamon desktop environment thankfully do not need to change any scaling settings to accommodate large resolutions. This is due to the fact that the developers who work on Ci...

Re: How do I start a terminal program from the start menu?

I tried this, which doesn't work: mate-terminal -e "node /home/chris/.SMLoadr/SMLoadr.js" Any idea how I can do this? It sounds simple, and it should be simple, but it's a bit of a PITA. For instance... File "aaa" is executable and in my PATH, and is: echo $HOME ls -l $HOME xfce4-terminal -e="aaa" ...

Re: Sound level 100% and yet too quiet...

The only problem is the change is not persistent. Whenever I reboot, I have to do it again because master-volume is down to -25dB. Could this be somehow fixed too? A "hack" is to set the audio when you login, namely run something like: That's a line from my "make the audio civilized" script that ru...

@JerryF Yes I have, my system is 64-bit, I did so as instructed by the guide, and then I entered the rest. Also to update, I still haven't resolved the issue, Flemurs instructions are to confusing I'm said to say, I do not have alot of experience with linux. I uninstalled wine the 2nd time, hoping ...

Re: please help me intall Wine

This worked (sort off) replacing 'winehq' with 'wine' in that line triggered the download and instalation process, however when it finished I wasn't able to run it through my terminal as all I get is errors: No command 'wine' found. I tried others such ass winecfg or wineboot etc I get the same err...

I have granted permission,
Changed owner, actually.
Is there anything else I should do next?
Delete its config files:

Code: Select all

find $HOME -iname "*xview*"
then delete the files returned.

Re: Font encoding problem in Thunderbird

Keepass things might be a bug: https://lists.archlinux.org/pipermail/arch-general/2015-January/038317.html But for t-bird, etc, try this to update your font cache, it can't - shouldn't - hurt anything: sudo fc-cache -fv Edit: FWIW, I sometimes get stuff like the below when everything's working OK: /...

Re: Third party software settings after an upgrade

I'm on Linux Mint 17.3 and I would like to upgrade up to 18.3. I'm **pretty sure** that upgrade consists of a new install of 18.3 I'm aware that third party software or PPAs will be removed after upgrading but I wonder if my settings for those programs will be gone as well once I download and insta...

Have downloaded Linux vs of Flashgot 1.5.6.14. 1 - There is no linux version, they're all the same. 2 - Did you literally download it, rather than hitting a button labeled "Add to Firefox" ? Your version of firefox would be handy to know because Version 1.5.6.14 Released Nov. 30, 2016 387.2 KiB Wor...

Re: please help me intall Wine

sudo apt-get install --install-recommends winehq-stable
Try (perhaps after purging all your attempted installs)

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install --install-recommends wine-stable
I have the same repo, and that install gives me:
$ wine --version
wine-3.0

Firefox 60 (ESR) ne remplissait pas correctement les mots de passe, et provoquait en quelque sorte le téléchargement de vidéos sur une page Web différente (!?). Pour en revenir à 59, tout a été réglé.

Re: how to do "picture-in-picture" in Mint?

In Xfce (not sure about others) right clicking in the titlebar of any window gives me that option. Same with fluxbox. Of course, there's no way to "flip" the windows with this. Raise one, lower the other [Edit: not even that...], and resize, maybe all with "xdotool" - which should work for all DEs....

Re: how to do "picture-in-picture" in Mint?

The solution is to glue two computers together, or glue an iPhone onto your regular monitor:
