Terminal:

Code: Select all

ps aux

These are probably more what you're looking for:

Code: Select all

gnome-system-monitor
xfce4-taskmanager
lxtask

gnome-system-monitor can show internet use.

Re: Listing directory in Nemo. Blam! Everything gone

sudo find $HOME ! -user $USER -type f brings up a ton of files listed- what were you looking for? ... It also doesn't seem like permissions is an issue either, since as I said, it happens when running nemo both in root, and outside root. The "sudo find $HOME..." should generally return NO...

Re: Resizing images is a pain on Linux Mint (rant)

Aside from the fact that Gimp uses the needlessly ambiguous "scale image" rather than the simple "resize", it lacks a simple menu of obvious choices once you get there: half, double, x%, best fit to desktop, and some common sizes. IOW, gimp is just like pix. (Other than the word...

Re: Linux Mint 18.3 Backgrounds

Make sure you don't have the "Style" set to "None" (= you get a solid color).

Set it to "Scale" or something else besides "None".

Re: Resizing images is a pain on Linux Mint (rant)

Don't tell me "you want an editor, not a viewer" or "use Gimp", which is way too complex when you simply want to resize an image to fit as desktop wallpaper. I won't tell you to use gimp, but I will tell you that resizing an image in gimp is about as simple as it can be. Rt-clic...

Have you tried running the panel from a terminal in order to see possible error messages?

Code: Select all

xfce4-panel

or

Code: Select all

xfce4-panel --disable-wm-check

I run the 2nd one to use the panel (mainly the menu) while running fluxbox.

Problem 1. I can read but cannot write to my secondary hard drive, installed on the computer, and also not to an external hard drive. I can read and write to usb sticks, but that's not enough for proper back ups. I am told 'the destination is read only' and find when I change permissions the window...

I am using BleachBit to clean up the browser cache and the system's temporary files, which can total up to 400MB at a time. Free advice: stay away from the BlechBit "wipe" feature. What happens to the system if these files are never cleaned up by the user? Is there an automatic that remov...

Regarding "no process found": This obvious: mintupdate <> mintUpdate. There must be no capital U inside. When I run "mintupdate" it responds with "mintUpdate". Regarding the missing upgrade menu entry: Do you see an update for mint-upgrade-info from V 1.0.9 -> 1.1.0 in...

[SOLVED GAVE UP] mintUpdate: no process found (upgrade from 18.2 to 18.3)

Edit: I've decided the "mintupdate" software is too buggy and kludgey to use, so shall not try to use it; it's just one weird thing after another, and useful information is completely absent. Now mintupdate is prompting for a password to run synaptic, but bash gets the password. +++ I was ...

mintinstall The software manager should not be run as root. Please run it in user mode. That's weird. I can run it as root (sudo -i) , no problem. I looked at the .py files and apparently your error msg was commented out (not by me!) though it did have "The software manager should be run as ro...
