Re: How do I replace systemd?

I haven't taken the time to fully research this matter so for now, I'm just taking the people's word that systemd is bad. That's definitely a matter of opinion. systemd is from "freedesktop.org" and IMHO they make some of the worst software around (e.g. the ridiculous mime and font implementations,...

Re: Long boot time even after installing new ssd

Desktop: Cinnamon 3.8.9 634ms systemd-journal-flush.service You have the "Cinnamon services take 10 to 20 x longer to start at boot" syndrome. (Edit: but it runs normally after boot...?) (for example, mine is 33ms systemd-journal-flush.service ) But still 3 minutes is too long, check dmesg for erro...

Re: Downloading via youtube-dl too slow?

I agree that Opus is the superior audio format even at the same bitrate, but you are comparing it to an audio/video format here (and not the one youtube-dl would download if no parameters are passed). But I'm confused, how is this relevant to the thread? The example was a music video, and if the OP...

Re: Mint 19 slow boot

only SSD can help me for faster boot ? They definitely makes things faster (cut my boot time in about half, to < 5 sec, but you'd still have the Cinnamon issue "at boot, almost every service takes 10 to 20 times longer to start than it should"), which I don't know the cause of or any solution to. Re: How to hide guides while rotating in Gimp

That's has been bothering me and you motivated me to fix it! (The guides make the rotation more difficult - it'd be nice if the guide remained fixed and didn't follow the image).

Check the setting for the rotation tool; set guides to "no guides". (click pic to embiggen)

Re: Uninstalling fonts

So to uninstall a font you can just delete the file? Okay. Where are these font files? You can delete the files and then run sudo fc-cache -fv but a better way is to uninstall them. You can also install fonts by doing the opposite; copying the .ttf files to one of the many proper locations, and run...

I cannot seem to open a game (file.exe) downloaded from GoG.com.
What happens when you enter in a terminal

Code: Select all

wine file.exe
when you're in the directory which contains file.exe, of course.
