Re: Gimp 2.10.9 resynthesizer

I have installed gimp 2.10.9 as an Appimage and made it executable. It runs fine but I had hoped it would have included the "Resynthesizer plugin", but it seems not. Supposedly the version here has resynthesizer: https://github.com/aferrero2707/gimp-appimage/releases Keep in the mind that the piece...

Re: How to Use WINE ???

And I make a little script to launch each .exe file, and the scripts make the windows programs act just like regular linux programs: you can open files from a file browser or terminal. Thanks; that bit about typing wine in the rt-click menu did the trick ! Is this script a permanent thing or only u...

Re: Dual boot resulting in going directly to Mint on startup

I gave that a try and now when I boot I get a screen giving me the option to go into Mint Advanced Options. The screen shows for a few seconds and then it proceeds to launch into Mint proper. Grub is very primitive. Touch an arrow button (on keyboard) as soon as you see the menu and it'll stay up. ...

Re: Mint 19.1 Are these updates safe.

Levels are set to be removed completely with LM 19.2, anyway. In my opinion it was always a terrible idea to introduce them in the first place, I've never used or paid any attention to the update levels (always update everything) and have never had any problems. OP, if you install a new kernel and ...

Re: How to Use WINE ???

I can type "winecfg" in Terminal and a tiny WINE window appears. I managed to add a Windows program into the little window; Does not compute. Some of the articles I read said that I could right-click the .exe file and choose "Open in Wine Windows Program Loader"; for whatever reason, I do not have ...

Re: Question About Killing a Process

select the program and kill it - are there any negatives? You might lose data that you'd otherwise save, or be prompted to save, when you closed the program normally (e.g. a text editor). If i kill firefox the cookies and such don't get deleted as in a normal 'quit', and it wants to restart with th...

Thanks, Flemur.

Exactly, rsync cannot find 'essen_a.png'.

The question is - why not? It is on the desktop as shown here. It is a real file with content which opens.

Screenshot at 2019-01-12 08-48-07.png

Any ideas what could be going wrong?
The file is not there.

Re: Bootable USB doesn't boot

IMHO, the best way to burn a bootable ISO is like this:

Code: Select all

dd bs=4M status=progress oflag=sync if=/path/to/bootable.iso of=/dev/sdx
/dev/sdx = the USB device. x=one letter, like 'd' or 'g'. BE CAREFUL with that part, make sure it's not your OS! which is usually /dev/sda.

it's really a matter of set once and use system as normal or tell the app where to store it elsewhere from default it pops up with in the first place and save that custom setting for future use. I prefer the former to the latter, hence my babbling on about it  I've never had an issue with ...

Isn't there a way to point the Document file/folder to a different place. In this case to another drive while leaving the os alone where it installed to.
Just make the Document(s) directory on the partition on the other drive and then start using it.

Re: Move 'downloads' to external drive

I just deleted all the (empty) ~/Downloads (etc) directories, made directories with similar names on the "data" partition (and made file-browser bookmarks) and started using them; I haven't found any software that is "hard-coded" to look for $HOME/Downloads, etc. ... tho there might be.

I assumed tecmint was OK and trustable? They might be trustable, but they don't know how to "write good". Of course, most computer documentation is pretty bad, even when it's written in complete sentences, as though the author had graduated from middle school. sudo apt-get purge gimp Well, I alread...
