Re: Google is STILL tracking you — here's how to limit it

I hate having to watch a video. You don't have to. They say: Get on your desktop or cell phone and go to myaccount.google.com. Scroll down to "Personal Info and Privacy" and click on "Manage Your Google activity." Click on "Go to Activity Controls." Turn off "Location History" by sliding the button...

Re: Glitch Emptying Trash

I have discovered a very large collection of foreign fonts that I deleted when I installed Mint, and that have been in the trash folder ever since. I used the Empty Trash button, but it had no effect at all. Nor can I manually delete the files one at a time. Linux Mint 18 Mate If you deleted system...

Thanks for your reply, but I can't see how it explains why a standard Mint form doesn't do what it say's on the button.
Apparently it's been a bug for about 10 years.

Re: Root Password

I just installed Linux Mint on a small laptop and I was not given an opportunity to create a root user password during installation. You shouldn't really need one; you use your own regular user password when something asks for permissions, like $ sudo whatever [sudo] password for <your-username>: T...

I received message that I needed Mono and it gave a link to linux mint. I installed that and got a message to install gecko, went to link and the message was package not found. I looked up gecko and saw the different packages, but it says they are distributions, in iso format. Is this what I'm look...

Re: Unsuccessful Mint upgrade from 18.3 to 19

This says it's Linux Mint Tara, while System Info shows again it's Sylvia! I'm confused. No, you're not confused, your installation is confused.** FWIW, I upgraded 18.3 to 19 by the approved method in this forum @Clem, and the OS thinks it's Mint 19 everywhere. You said the upgrade didn't finish: w...

Re: You may only use fonts up to size 200

The error message "You may only use fonts up to size 200" prevents me from sending. So far I can find no way to change the font. Is this a Firefox issue? It's from the forum software. I can get that message by setting the "size=220" for some text. Try clearing your browser cookies (Ctrl+Shift_Del) ...

Re: Naming files in GNU/Linux

No spaces, delimiters or special characters.

To distinguish my own scripts (commands) from system commands, I use caps to start (most of, cuz sometimes forget) my script names, e.g "Find", and underscores to separate words; "net_stat", linux usually uses minus, e.g. "mint-drivers".

Re: Filesize when downladed doesn't match listed size on site? (17.2)

Is there something unusual about the way mint calculats file sizes? Yes! It calculates it two different ways: ls -l Incredible_Shrinking_Man.mp4 --> 573,760,711 (bytes) ls -lh --> 548M File browser shows 573.8 MB. Like MrEen mentioned, it's counting by 1000 or 1024 = one thousand, and 1000^2 or 102...

My present Internet provider (a condo/hotel complex) uses a 7-character pre-shared WiFi password throughout their network - Why does Mint require a minimum of eight characters for the WiFi password? I don't see the 1TB drive in my file system in Mint. How do I access it? sudo blkid Should show it, if it's connected. Also gparted -> upper-right corner -> select disk. If there are already partitions on it, they should show up in "Places" or "Devices" in menus or your file browser; double click/r...
