Re: I lost the sound coming from my speakers

Thanks. I rocked the plug back and forth in a circular motion gently and then tried my sound out...... and still got nothing. So I unplugged my speakers and then plugged in my headphones and ....... still got no sound. So I sat the headphones down on the desk and started to use my PC without the sou...

I lost the sound coming from my speakers

Hello, I lost the sound coming out of the speakers connected to my desktop computer. The speakers are connected to the tiny jack on the back of the PC but I only get a 'hum' noise out of the speakers now whenever I tap the end of my fingertip to the end of the metal speaker jack plug. That seems to ...

Re: I'm having problems installing Mint 19 to an old laptop PC

How can I tell if it's a bootable image just by clicking on the DVD icon on my desktop? When I do and select CD/DVD drive properties I get a "Basic" tab and a pop up box. What information am I looking for that tells me if it is indeed a bootable image or not? I put the DVD into another even older la...

Re: I'm having problems installing Mint 19 to an old laptop PC

At the "Dell" start up screen, I selected "F12 boot options". That sent me into a "Boot Manager" screen and I selected the "CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive" option by highlighting it with the up and down arrow key and then pressed the enter key on my keyboard. The laptop proceeded to reboot but still fell back i...

I'm having problems installing Mint 19 to an old laptop PC

Hi, I'm trying to install Mint 19 "Tarah" to an old laptop PC I have. I finally managed to get the .iso image burned onto a DVD disc. When I put the .iso image disc into the optical drive on the old laptop, it won't boot into the new disc image, instead it just boots into the old Mint 18 "Sarah" des...

Re: I'm having a problem burning an .iso image to a blank disc

All I currently have are some "+R" blank discs.

I'll download and try a different burning program and see how that goes....

I'm having a problem burning an .iso image to a blank disc

Hi, I'm trying to burn Linux Mint 19 to a brand new blank DVD+R disc sitting inside my optical burner but have encountered a problem. Re: Which version of Linux Mint do I need, 64-bit or 32-bit?

Here's what I found about laptop number one:

Dell Inspiron 3521 - 15.6" - Pentium 2127U - 4 GB RAM - 500 GB HDD

Operating System
Windows 8 64-bit Edition

So I guess it's a 64-bit processor. I'm going to look up what my other older laptop is too.

Re: Which version of Linux Mint do I need, 64-bit or 32-bit?

It has an Intel Pentium in it. There's also a sticker on it that says Windows 8. So it was bought new from the Windows 8 time frame when you could still buy Windows 8 laptops brand new inside stores. Does that help? Or do you need more info?

I also have an old Windows 7 era laptop as well.

Which desktop environment of Linux Mint 19 "Tara" should I go with?

Hi, I'm thinking of upgrading my PC to the new Linux Mint 19 "Tara" edition. However, I'm not sure which version to go with, Cinnamon, MATE or XFCE? I come from a strong Microsoft Windows background, so I was thinking of maybe going with a version that is the most like Microsoft windows. The last ve...

The shield icon in the bottom panel is gone. I think I accidentally deleted it some time ago, and I don't know how to get it back.

Re: Whats the smallest device I can currently install Linux Mint on today?

Interesting, but not quite what I had in mind. Think more like an ultra portable Netbook or Tablet PC with detachable matching keyboard.

Define "smallest". Are you referring to physical size?
Yes, I'm referring to physical hardware size. By "small" I mean "most portable". So think physically compact, lightweight, and even thin hardware.

Re: I'm not able to play a DVD in my DVD drive on my PC

Try this: Menu - Terminal Type (use copy/paste to transport this magical incantation to the terminal): sudo apt-get install libdvd-pkg Press Enter. When prompted, type your password. Your password will remain entirely invisible, not even dots will show, this is normal. Whenever the terminal asks yo...
