Re: Screen resolution for Dell monitor

Hi Thanks for the links. I don't have an xorg.conf and was wondering how to create one suitable for my monitor. (It would be simple if I could adapt an existing one). When I run the xrandr I get the following output and the resolution does not change. Any help would be much appreciated before lookin...

Screen resolution for Dell monitor

I have a Dell monitor which is capable of displaying 1280 x 800 with Windows. I've installed Mint 17 Mate RC and updated. The monitor maximum resolution is 1024 x 768 and the monitor is 'unknown'. The 'Driver Manager' does not offer and other driver options. I've been trying to find a solution to th...

Re: Mint 15 - Wallpaper wouldn't show up until I open Nemo

reinstalling nemo did nothing (though apt-get purge // apt-get install probably would). what did work was deleting ~/.config/nemo and ~/.config/cinnamon then rebooting (or log out/in) some config. setting must have got stuck during an update or so i guess. Thanks but this has been successful on my ...

Stream photos to a smart TV

I'd like to be able to stream photos over my wireless network from Linux Mint on my laptop to display on my Samsung smart TV. BTW I've found a number of apps for my Nexus 7 which allow me to do just that streaming pictures taken on my Nexus straight to the TV where I'm able to navigate using the Nex...

Re: Mint seems to have an endemic problem with suspend

Lots of people are having this problem in 14 and no expert ever chimes in with any solution. Users have commented that the developers can't fix it but that it should be resolved "upstream" sometime. Hopefully. But no updates from update manager, or terminal (running apt get update, or install or up...

Re: Installing a new distro has lengthened boot up times

Boot up times have approximately increased by 50% and I cannot find a way of bringing them back down. I've tried disabling swap in fstab but that does not seem to make any difference. I don't really want to re install all my OSs to correct this problem ..... although I will make sure any future inst...

Installing a new distro has lengthened boot up times

I've currently got a multi boot set up and have just installed another distro (Crunchbang) which unfortunately changed the UUID for swap on my system. This change seems to have significantly increased the time it takes for my remaining distros to boot up, despite changing the UUID for swap in each o...

Mint 13 xfce - suspend not working

I've just installed a fresh copy of Mint 13 XFCE. Suspend was working fine in an older version of Mint on this box. How do I get suspend working again? Any suggestions? Re: Fast booting distro for SSD drive

Boo! Too slow! Linux Mint 13 boots in 6 seconds  Surprise, but once you have removed the bottleneck that caused your computer to boot horrible slow (i.e., the hard disk) you will encounter the next bottleneck. And so boot time is variable also depending on your hardware. Best bet: if you w...
