Re: Wubi & Upgrading Mint 14 to Mint 17

It was a utility that came on the Mint 14 ISO image. I was just hoping someone else around here would have a better memory than mine.
Now if only I could find my old Mint 14 install DVD, the mystery could be solved....

Re: Wubi & Upgrading Mint 14 to Mint 17

Hey guys, I've been a Linux user for a good many years, and actually used to work for one of the well-known distro companies. So I always run it either on the whole hard drive or on a *separate* partition to Windoze (an OS I have very little love for). I do not want to run Mint as if it was a preten...

Wubi & Upgrading Mint 14 to Mint 17

I'm working with a thinline laptop that required Wubi to boot and install Mint 14 from an external DVD drive (it dual-boots to Win7). I don't seem to be able to find a way to do this with Mint 17, or even through any of the currently installed OSs. Is this not supported any more? Thanks!

Re: Can't access Windows shares in Mint 13 (Maya) + MATE

All help and advice gladly received! :) What I found is that file sharing between Windows and Linux works fine - provided you stick with the default domain name of "WORKGROUP". I'm guessing you've probaby got everything running on default. If your employer uses a different cifs/smb domain name, and ...

Re: Can't access Windows shares in Mint 13 (Maya) + MATE

I wonder if any progress has happened with this issue. I'm now in a different job, where they unfortunately also have an MS-centric IT strategy. I'm trying again with Mint 14.1, and appear to be hitting the same issue, which I was hoping may have been fixed by now.

In fact that's exactly what I ended up doing, after I woke up my brain with some caffeine. :) Still seems strange how that option has now disappeared from the MATE menu....

Or you can run Synaptics Package Manager and select fglrx. I believe that will install the latest good driver.

Missing "Menu > Admin > Hardware Drivers" in Nadia + MATE

I want to enable the AMD fglrx driver on a Samsung laptop with a fresh install of Mint 14.1. For some reason the "Hardware Drivers" option isn't anywhere to be found. I've not seen that happen before with any version of Ubintu or Mint. Anyone know what's going on here?? Otherwise, everything is runn...

Re: Can't access Windows shares in Mint 13 (Maya) + MATE

Yes, I also had an XP virtual machine in VirtualBox, for those very rare occasions when some corporate IT rogue app forced the use of Windoze. And indeed I found the very same issue with Maya, but not with Katya.

Re: Can't access Windows shares in Mint 13 (Maya) + MATE

I also tried the methods described in this thread, http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=88146&start=0 Still no joy. I read somewhere that Samba has been changed to make it more secure, and I'm now suspecting this is some kind of a permissions issue, since when you click on the desired do...

Re: Can't access Windows shares in Mint 13 (Maya) + MATE

çok teşekkürler :) Unfortunately, trying some more edits of samba.cnf, using the SUSE version as a guide, I got no improvement. I suspect this file only deals with the samba server, and the smb client settings live somewhere else. I will read the thread you mentioned, and carry on searching. Worst c...

Re: Can't access Windows shares in Mint 13 (Maya) + MATE

Thanks for that tip. However, when I tried it, I found that my computer was now the only server in a new workgroup called "COMPANYDOMAIN.LOCAL". This doesn't appear to be too suprising if we consider that the relevant comment text in the smb.conf file says "# Change this to the workgroup/NT-domain n...

Can't access Windows shares in Mint 13 (Maya) + MATE

I run my laptop on a corporate IT network that is unfortunately totally MS-centric. I had been running LinuxMint 11 happily for the best part of a year and able to access all smb shares and cifs servers I required access to. Last week I upgraded to Maya + MATE, and suddenly I can only access shares ...

Re: [Solved] Update Manager is broken (miniupdate) M13 cinna

I had the same problem with my recent Mint 13 MATE install. I commented out those offending lines, and now it works fine. In case anyone hasn't realised, those lines point to an Ubuntu URL with references to "maya" which is a Mint OS name and not Ubuntu :) I would echo the comment above, why is this...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

MATE totally rocks!!! I've been a long time Gnome user, but really hated what they did with Gnome 3. Just started running MATE with Mint 13, and it's true Gnome, just like it should be. :D :D
