Re: Update Firefox

I've been wondering the same thing. I multi-boot a lot doing various package testing and I notice that those distros where I installed Firefox 3.6.* using the tar.bz2 are now up to 3.6.15 (.14 only lasted for about a week). 3.6.15 didn't address any specific security issues: Firefox 3.6.15 fixes the...

Re: Mintdesktop 3.22... (Solved)

Far out! I was just trying to decide if I should reinstall LMDE because I started with '201009'. With this resolved I see no need to reinstall using '201012'.

it then says "ready when you are" but then.... nothing, the forward button stays greyed out
I've seen that happen if someone uses CAPS in the username field.

Re: XP missing from Grub

I'm very tired and just headed off to bed but the first thing we need to know is if you can boot anything right now? I see a few problems. First this shows you have legacy crub on the mbr of sda: => Grub 0.97 is installed in the MBR of /dev/sda and looks on boot drive #2 in partition #1 for /boot/gr...

Re: Installation has broken my computer

It appears that installing Mint 9 has broken my pc. I installed it this afternoon, I was able to boot into it once, but I cannot boot into Mint or Windows now. I get the message: "No module name found Aborted. Press any key to exit." Then: "Non-system disk or disk-error. Replace and strike any key ...

Re: GAG boot manager and Mint 9

I've not personally tried but I've been told that GAG is also incompatible with ext4 file systems :( Have you considered just trying Mint's grub 2 out on the MBR? The "auto-magic" feature is pretty darn good. 90% of operating systems will be added just by running: sudo update-grub I've found that so...

Re: Won't boot after installing Mint 9 on Mint 8 partition

A friend has a Toshiba laptop, with Windows 7. He loaded Mint 8 and wanted to change the boot order. I told him to re-load the Mint partition with Mint 9 so we could just Menu>Control Center> System > Startup Manager. He loaded Mint 9 and can't boot ANY operating system. Gets an error message Grub ...

Re: Urgent help needed

The easiest way to approach any multi-boot grub problem is to first have a look at the output of the Boot Info Script: http://bootinfoscript.sourceforge.net/ It can be run using a Live CD if nothing boots. Also, what can you boot right now? If you post the RESULTS.txt output of that Boot Info Script...

Re: Why won't grub stay bootable?!

Why are you installing grub to a PBR rather than the MBR?

You say nothing about what (or how many) other operating systems you have installed.

What boot loader is controlling the boot process?

Chainloading from another grub? Using easy BCD?

Or do you expect us to possess mental telepathy?

Re: System freeze on Mint9 install

It could be an upstream graphics bug.Run the command: lspci | grep VGA That will show the specific graphics chip info, then look here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LucidLynx/ReleaseNotes#Other%20known%20issues Some of the Intel chips have been particularly troublesome: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LucidLynx/R...

Re: Can't Install Mint 9 but Ubuntu 10.04 installed fine

Does anyone have any ideas? What I do not understand is why Ubuntu 10.04 did not have any problems installing to this same system. It (Ubuntu 10.04) does have the same sort of issue when it boots now but buts/runs fine. As a matter of fact it is much smoother graphically than 9.10 on this machine. ...

It's going to require some troubleshooting and the simplest way to begin is if we can see the output of the Boot Info Script as described here:

Let's get some more specific graphics info, from any Ubuntu or Mint (installed or Live) open the terminal and run:

Code: Select all

lspci | grep VGA
And please post that output here.
