Re: How do I read battery cycle count?

ok, here's what I have found: take a look at tlp(http://linrunner.de/en/tlp/docs/tlp-linux-advanced-power-management.html). after installing a few tools and some automatic kernel module compiles (done with apt-get installs) I can finally read advanced battery statistics. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:...

How do I read battery cycle count?

mate-power-statistics doesn't provide this. my laptop model is below(read signature). online informations regarding /proc/acpi/battery seems deprecated(they don't exist on my laptop)

grub - 'ungroup' the kernel versions

I noticed that after a kernel update your old kernel goes into the previous versions entry of grub boot menu. This is quite annoying - is there any way to 'ungroup' those and put everything back to main boot menu? where can I change this behavior?

Re: NTP Setup

Isn't it a better idea to stick with ntp and ditch ntpdate (as written on 'man ntpd')?

How can I use fastest mirror with aptitude/apt-get?

in Fedora, there is something nice called 'yum-plugin-fastestmirror' that selects fastest mirror automatically. How can I achieve this with apt/aptitude?

Re: mate-power-manager: what is 'sleep'?

passerby wrote:Sleep = suspend. MATE will refer to hibernate as... hibernate :D
But it keeps hibernating on idle!

more research: sleep is 'suspend' when on ac power. if I'm only with batteries then it goes into hibernate. How can I completely drop this hibernate feature?

Re: How do i mount as file manager does, in command-line?

I did some searching on this myself. Thanks anyway for your comprehensive answers. to mount partitions into /media/USERNAME (not /media), use udisksctl. udisksctl mount -b /dev/sda1 udisksctl unmount -b /dev/sda1 $ udisksctl mount -b /dev/sda1 Mounted /dev/sda1 at /media/thkang/xxx $ udisksctl unmou...

[SOLVED]How to mount using gvfs/udisks

on most file managers (thunar, caja, nautilus), usually on the left pane, there are 'devices' group and 'network' group. double-clicking an entry in any group will make that entry to be mounted. 'devices' group contains usb drives or partitions that aren't automatically mounted on boot. they are mou...

mate-power-manager: what is 'sleep'?

I've been using xfce4 on fedora and recently switched to linux mint. I thought about installing xfce but mate was very nice :D I have a question here: with mate-power-manager I can set my laptop to 'sleep' after idling for a few minutes. However, the word 'sleep' is quite ambigous; I want my laptop ...

I wanna use win key as I did in windows.

My laptop and pretty much every keyboard I can find has a key called win key which is located between left control and left alt. I recently migrated to KDE mint 13. I often press win key to pop up start menu (is it called launch menu in KDE? I dont really know) to run new programs, and do etc. Howev...
