I get as far as F10 then get kernel panic - not syncing: unable etc etc. I lost my password so cannot do undates to software. After typing intial code line alteration I get a \ appearing after bash

Gave up in the 16gb stick install and am now installing on the HDD alongside Win 7. so far so good, done install, grub update and hardware config, now restart. fingers crossed ...... I really dont understand it Tim; I am now using a magazine disk with those programs listed above on, settled for mint but it would not install from desktop to stick. So binned it and decided to use magazine disk as and when. At least this way I can try them all and decide, but Mint is winning up to ...

Thanks. I am having loads of problems trying to install mint onto a usb drive. It keeps telling me the root is missing!!

Bought Linux Format magazine with 2 disks on it. Changed set to disk boot. Full Distro extravaganza Disks A & B. When I click on the iso, I get no option but DVD and nero default. Run the checksum no - I had no idea what that was, you mentioned it and it is there. OK will have a look later, have to go out now, thanks again. Dont forget you are talking to a linux dork here, never tried it until today.

3 burns 3 fails. Software is on dvd but refuses to open now, will bin it and go get magazine in the morning, there is two disks on it with something called disco's on, maybe that will work. Thanks for all your help.

Linux New Install on 64 bit Laptop

I decided to try out linux mint 13 64 bit on my laptop and its on a dvd, and loads BUT, it keeps asking me for username and password and refuses to go any further. How the heck can I have a username and password when I have never activated it or used it before? :evil:
