For those of you who run into a similar problem. Ivy bridge and kernel 3.2 seem to be the problem. I use 3.4.4 without any problems and a similar setup. (No word on power though)

Seems like I'm having a similar probelm to teilnehmer, with XFCE & KDE on mint 13. Computer becomes unresponsive, audio repeats, graphics hang.
