Re: Linux Mint 19 codenamed “Tara”

currently, I'm only using 19GB /root That sounds a bit high, mine's about 16GB after more than 2 years' use. May be normal for Mint 19 though. How much stuff is accumulating in /var/cache/apt/archives ? Mine needs cleaning up again. Got rid of about 4 or 5 GB last clearout. I'm sorry if that was co...

Re: Linux Mint 19 codenamed “Tara”

Mattyboy, I have installed Mint 19 Mate , with root and swap on a SSD and home on a large ordinary hard drive. Works fine Best regards Keith How big is the SSD? I have a 128GB SSD, and I'm going to leave the UEFI & recovery partition (for now) That should give me 50GB /root and about 65GB /home, as...

Re: Linux Mint 19 codenamed “Tara”

I'm finding it hard to resist downloading & installing these early Beta ISOs Clem says they go live on Monday, June 4, but I may try this weekend. I have an MSI gaming laptop -- i7-7700, 32GB, 128SSD + 1TB with Nvidia GEforce and I'm anxious to replace Windows 10 that's currently installed (some con...

Re: Thunderbird 52.4.0 connection issues . . .

Glad you got it fixed. I would have checked the mail server setting in TBird. Sometimes they get garbled for some strange reason. My mail server settings changed recently on my email server's end, so I had to enter the "correct" settings in TBird. That should be the first thing to do, as I did, to ...

Re: Thunderbird 52.4.0 connection issues . . .

After no response, I finally decided to "purge" every instance of Thunderbird from my machine and start from scratch. It worked successfully, as two of my accounts are back and running. I have no idea WHY they suddenly stopped connecting to the mail servers. I am not going to mark this [SOLVED] as n...

Re: Thunderbird 52.4.0 connection issues . . .

I'm thinking of posting the output from "Error Console" to Mozillazine or SuperUser Looking at the output, I wonder why Javascript is enabled in Thunderbird? Also, Firefox 56.0 "about:config" reads "javascript.enabled;true" I'm also looking at the top line: Could not read chrome manifest 'file:///us...

Re: [SOLVED] thunderbird 'mailto:' runs account setup wizard

thx I corrected the mimeapps.list, and I've tried working offline but no success. This happened after openssl was upgraded from 4.8 to 4.9 Is there a way to "reset" the SSL/TLS connections? Would you like me to open a new thread to deal with the openssl and other connection issues? I have a thread o...

Re: Curious

We all thought and hoped Windows XP would be around forever and MS pulled it out from under us. Actually "we" didn't! I never liked Windows XP though I did appreciate the inclusion of device drivers. I guess I am the "real" old-timer, as I started with Windows 3.1x, which was DOS with a gui (borrow...

Re: Chromium overheating CPU

I'll give that a try, thx

I was watching the monitor, and CPU usage ran around 46-64 with occasional spikes to 100+

From the time stamps in syslog, I'm sure those spikes were the trigger for overheating.

I'll give your suggestion a try.

Re: Touchpad not active on my Terra Laptop

We BOTH need some more help! In my opinion, the fact 'xinput' is not showing the touchpad is bad news. IF it's not shown in any of the other hardware queries (i.e., 'lshw,' 'dmesg' or 'dmidecode'), I'd say, "It's not working!" Either BIOS is not "seeing" it or the hardware itself is unplugged or fai...
