Cinnamon crashed

I uninstalled freepascal and the next boot I got (paraphrased) and a blank screen with a cursor after replying to the message below. Unable to launch cinnamon-xsession not found falling back to default session. No biggie, I have a clone of the drive but I would like to know why a seemingly unrelated...

Re: Frequent Cinnamon Crashes, Mint 18.3

Since I installed Mint 18.3 my only issue with crashes I isolated to my power supply and its fans and the internal chassis fans of the PC in general that were clogged with dust. Since clearing that all out a few months ago I have not had one crash. So, before going headlong into software problems be...

Re: Cloning a hard disk - In search of best practice

For a 100% reliable, off line, inexpensive SATA drive cloner that is very Linux friendly AND an external dual drive E-sata drive appliance the new Sabrent USB 3.0 to SATA External Hard Drive Docking Station is as good as it gets. No scripts, no typing, push a button and voila a perfectly functional ...

Thanks, that worked. I had a feeling there was either too much or not enough in that file!

Thx again!

SOLVED: Software manager not running

Software manager stopped after trying to get wine working. Attempting to get wine up for an old win32 app (paint shop pro 4) I ran from suggestion on this site: sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list wget https://dl.winehq.org/wine-vuilds/Release.key sudo apt-get add Release.key sudo apt-add--repository 'd...

SOLVED File / folder default

Is there a way that I can make my home folder (Cinnamon) AND every sub folder default to the LIST view instead of the ICON view? I have no use for the icon view and use the list view exclusively. Having to change views on every folder every time I open one of the many I have on every disk is less th...

Re: Deleting Win7 files under Mint 18.3

Thanks Pierre, I suspect that a defrag under Win7 will scramble whatever data might have been leftover to make recovery impossible or more difficult.

Is there a replacement for the old "Xkill" ???

Every once in a while a program will go in the weeds and I cannot get out of it. Back in the day, when the xkill app icon touched the misbehaving application and it pulled the plug on it RIGHT NOW! :-)

Is there a replacement for it?

Re: How do I put Something On the Start Menu

Right click on menu, click configure, then the menu button, then open the menu editor, select the application family, let's say education, click new item, in the launcher properties paste the path:

In my case I used, /usr/bin/gtick

In the name field give it a name, close, done.

SOLVED Deleting Win7 files under Mint 18.3

I don't know if this is a common request, but I would like to delete some personal files off of my Win7 pro hard drive and I do not want them recoverable. I would still like the drive and O/S to remain intact though. Can anyone tell me if a file delete done under Mint is totally gone or do I have to...

Re: RAID mirroring in Mint

I decided rather than get RAID, and I want to always have a fully configured backup in case the boot drive went belly up I looked at other options. This morning the Sabrent USB 3.0 to SATA Hard Drive Docking Station (2 drive toaster) came in and it copied my 500gig drive in about an hour and a half ...

Re: Bad Sectors on SSD?

Actually no, it won't - the 2T drive contains my /home filesystem and my win7 data partition ... it's always full to the brim, despite all my efforts to backup and move away data. I might find enough space for those 250G on one of my external usb backup drives, but sending an entire 250G disk image...

Re: Cannot play some of my DVD's

Hi gnappi, I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well. What kind of DVD's are these, homemade, or store-bought movies? You can try installing "ubuntu-restricted-extras" and "udftools" from the "Synaptic Package Manager (SPM)", logging out and back in or r...
