It's not explanatory if one doesn't know the Vivaldi connection?
Thanks all.

Chrome "stuff" dumped on my drive!
I just updated my system from 21.2 to 21.3 and everything went smoothly. Note I have not had Chrome installed on my system nor do I use Google (duck for me) or Google Earth but now there are THOUSANDS of (nearly 3k) files with various permutations of Chrome* files on my system I CANNOT remove. Has M...

Re: How to increase 537MB size of /boot/efi partition
EUREKA!!! I found why the partition was full, Clonezilla saved an image there now there's LOTS of space.
Partition:

ID-2: /boot/efi size: 511 MiB used: 6.1 MiB (1.2%) fs: vfat

Re: How to increase 537MB size of /boot/efi partition
Hi, yeah my machine is Mint only and the drive was partitioned on install as it is. 537 megs seems a lot for a single boot machine made worst by the fact that update mgr doesn't check that it needs more space before destroying the drive.

How to increase 537MB size of /boot/efi partition
It seems odd that the default disk sizes upon install are too small to allow update manager up update grub, even stranger (IMO) that a partition size check required to update GRUB is not done a T-0 where an upgrade can be aborted before a drive is destroyed :-) As it is how can I increase the size o...

Re: [Solved] 21.2 vs 21.3
I just did a fresh install from 21.2 to 21.3 and personalizing it was pretty seamless. My very old Intel 3.6GHz. i7 processor with 16 gigs of memory on a very small 500GB drive have ample resources left for growth on both. I only use the GUI so speed wise I have not noticed any improvement on load t...

Re: Update manager
Thanks, the GCC tip is a good one.
If y'll go back and read my OP I said NOTHING about removing anything, only to NOT upgrade certain features or programs.

Textbelt text messages
I found Textbelt to be useful for when my, or GF's phone or other is misplaced and if I can streamline it I'll buy a few hundred connections. I can copy the text from textbelt into a shell, edit the phone number and message but I wonder if anyone wrote a script or graphical application that will pro...

Update manager
I just looked at the update manager and the updates require a lot of data. I only get 40 gigs of data a month on my phone plan (I use it as a hot spot) and some make no sense for me. For example... AMD stuff (I have Intel) Firefox (Never used it) Apache (do not use as a web server) GCC (I don't writ...

.config folder gone / purged twice
The first time it happened a few months ago I swapped over to a backup drive, no biggie but after that I make a copy of the .config file weekly. Today I found the file was again purged and programs like Vivaldi reverted back to the installed state. This time I overwrote the .config file from a backu...

Linux Mint 21.2 solution
Hoping some gremlins I've had with 21.1 would go away with an upgrade I figured since I have a few drives, I'd take the plunge. The recommendation to apply updates did not work for me. I could NOT apply update manager to THREE cloned drives with it failing at one of the last operations installing GR...

Update manager error
My system is 21.1 single boot one partition and before upgrading to 21.2 I ran the update on all the applications from update manager. I did NOT select the Firefox or Vivaldi updates and when finished the error: "Writing GRUB to boot device failed" error and the drive no longer booted. I t...

Second memory card ignored
I have a need to duplicate my phone's 256 Gig memory card, I want to copy SDHC to SDHC and I have a problem. I can install either card but not both at the same time. Whichever I install first is mounted and recognized by disks, but installing the second card is never recognized on any of the USB por...

Re: [SOLVED ] Just installed Mint 21
I just upgraded to 21 from 20.3, I wouldn't do a fresh install because recovering my machine that way it was in 20.3 would have been a real PITA. I should mention that my main drive is 1TB with two partitions and I never needed the back 500GB so I just ignore all of the gorp that comes with the dist...
